Those folks have hated each other for eons. They played nice under Tito but when he died in 1980 things went down hill. Belgrade consolidated power and basically tried to run each republic from there, obviously pissing off the locals. The Slovenes got off easy, in part because they were furthest from Serbia and partly because the local defense forces had a shadow military organization for just that eventuality. The Serbs made a showing that they would use force but after a few decisive Slovene victories it became apparent that there were bigger fish to fry.

I can't speak to the anti-Muslim sentiment in Serbia, but I do know they are also not too fond of jews, so at least they are equal opportunity haters?

The Ustase (Croation nationalist/quasi-catholic facist leadership) in WW2 sure as hell didn't help matters for the Croats.

They also won't let Gibraltar and Spain be in the same group. Uefa Mafia will do everything for their Western countries but when it comes to the poorer Eastern block they just turn their head and dish out fines ratherrather than dealing with it another way. Uefa = pussies.

ETA: Forgot about this yesterday, but this incident should poke another hole in ESPNFC's dwindling credibility.

Here's ESPNFC's gamecast.

It names the stadium as Red Star's. Of course, the stadium is quite clearly Partizan's.

Some of the posts in this thread are really ignorant. Clearly, a lack of information, prejudices, profiling, and systematic disinformation by mass media are likely causes.

@StraightCashHomey21

"Serbs are animals but everyone knows that.

Even my Serbian friends"

I guess I could lower myself to Homey's level and say: "Yes. We learnt from the best - Brits. They have invented football hooliganism, and have committed atrocities and have plundered all over the world, in the name of the King. We can only hope to dream of reaching their level."

But, I won't do that.

However, it really puzzles me who'd want to befriend with a person who has such a train of thought.

Or, what does religion has something to do with someone being a brainwashed savage:

"Eastern Orthodox Russian brainwashed savages"

Why all the hatred?

Homey, I hope your words were spewed out while you were under influence of drugs or alcohol.

Ignorant posts aside, let's say something about the incident.

1. It was well planned, organized and performed.
2. There were no Albanian spectators at the stadium, except official representatives from Albania in the VIP box, one of which was Albanian prime minister's brother.
3. Drone had no camera. While the drone was launched outside the stadium, it was flown by a person at the stadium.
4. The Flag was not official flag of Albania, or God forbid, Kosovo.
5. The Flag contained a map of Great Albania - Albanian dream about annexing parts of all neighboring countries (Montenegro, Serbia excluding Kosovo, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Greece).

6. Serbian player only wanted to remove the flag and the drone, so the game can be continued.
7. Albanian players went physical first.

This incident is nothing but a tremendous political provocation. And common Albanians are proud about the incident - just read any news from the region.

I don't support hooligan idiots who have caused additional problems prior, and after the incident.

There's one more thing. Thousands of Albanians and Kosovans are in the ISIS forces, and many Albanians openly support ISIS.
So, when you read about a crime, or, God forbid, get involved in a crime caused by an Albanian ISIS warrior on your own soil, Homey, don't forget to pull your thumbs up, and say : "Aces!"

Greetings from Serbia.

Peace Out.

Sounds like this Ivan Bogdanov fella was not only allowed in the game but was allowed to casually stroll onto the pitch when things got heated.

This is the same fella that incited riots in 2010 against Italy during a Euro 2012 qualifier that required the game to be abandoned. He also is responsible for setting a US embassy on fire. He is a notorious Serbian Ultra and one of the leaders of the Ultras Boys of Red Star FC.

No fricks given here.

You still don't get it

Honestly this match should have never taken place or both games should have been behind closed doors at a neutral site.

The Serb's new exactly what would happen if they grabbed that flag. So your professional athlete claim goes both way and not just at Albanians.

Obvious

Albania denies his involvement. Doesn't mean he didn't do it, but lying wouldn't get him very far.

Not absolutely certain. It's not like it was a hallway.

I noticed the videos of people driving around Pristina with fireworks and Albanian flags.

I doubt you really are from Serbia but I will play.

Most my Balkan friends even the ones from Serbia admit their country men have issues. Thats why they left or why lots of their family members left Serbia for the states or Montenegro getting far away from Belgrade.

I have been to Croatia and seen the fresh wounds of the war still there and since I dated a Balkan woman four years and almost married her while I grew up in the DC area which has lots of Croatians, Bosnian, Serbs etc along with St Louis. I am very spun up and informed on what happened and what goes on.

the match was stopped before that b/c of Serbian fans throwing flares on the pitch while also chanting death to Croatians and Albanians. Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo lets not let facts get in the way.

Spot on.
There'a strong link between (association) football clubs and supporters' groups - most of which are highly involved in criminal.
Group leaders often get funded, have doors opened, and have a voice in the club.
Some group leaders even dare to do things, like removing a captain's armband from captain's arm in front of the full stadium and cameras, after a defeat .
That player looks frightened for his life, to me.

Serbians fight for both sides in Crimea. Those are the dogs of war, not religious freaks. They fight for money, or for a possibility to fulfill their urges to kill people without being prosecuted, not because they are in love with freaking Russians, or in the name of the God. The world's scum. However, they don't dream about a great ISIS republic:
Our government (that I don't support either) has stepped in:

Google translate:

Adopted amendments to the Criminal Code to participate in foreign conflicts
Photo: Reuters
Serbian parliament adopted today a majority vote of the Criminal Code, which provide for a prison sentence of 6 months to 10 years for those who participate in war or armed conflicts in other countries, or organize and recruit citizens of Serbia to do so.

Regarding your remark about Bogdanov. As I said, I don't support hooligans, and/or their stupid actions. But, Burning an Albanian flag in Italy. Well, boo hoo. A lot of Italians must have found themselves offended.

There's a sizable portion of Italians in the southern part of the country who are ancestrally from Albania and have ties with the country through that.

So you are claiming Serbs who follow, support and are will to fight for Russia do not believe in recreating an Eastern Orthodox state similar to the Russian empire days when Serbia was under Russian influence?

I don't hate Serbs but I will call a spade a spade like I do with my fellow American Whites,Blacks Hispanics etc. My Serbian friends fled because their familes did not want to live that life. A few of them where children of mixed Serb/Bosnian marriages. We both know how that would have ended up if the hit squads found them.

Yea but the match was in Genoa. Northern Italians don't like Southern Italians because they are to black.
