a .22 for a 3 year old?!?!
Read the OP. A .22 caliber pellet gun. Not a .22...Geesh. I'm not that desperate.

At 3 he won't be able to pump a pellet gun. Set him up for success, start with a BB gun.

Length of pull on the Red Ryder is a little long for a 3 yr. old.
Take a look at the 105 Buck. It's 5" shorter.

Start him with a airsoft rifle.

You can buy them for him, but wait till he gets big enough before you let him shoot them. THat's what I did... or told my wife anyway. I really just wanted a .223 and a .17.

Instead of buying him a gun, buy him his Louisiana Lifetime Hunting/Fishing Licenses. For 0-4 year old it $200.

I would hope you did this already. Get him a lifetime license then get him a gun sometime after he turns 5

It's not about age. It's about handling responsibility

Did this for mine. Best $200 I ever spent.

I know some Grown arse men, that couldn't even handle a cap gun.

No, he is fully self dependent
Pfft.

Let me rephrase it. He is as self dependent as a 3 year old can be
So he still shits his pants.
I was probably 6 or so when I got my crack barrel .410 and started shooting my paw-paws .22 rifle around that time. I don't remember starting on a BB gun. I think the idea was that guns can be very dangerous...so the first few years was strictly shooting with my dad and paw-paw before they set me loose with a BB gun to bring home Robins.

I think 5 is a good age for a bb gun. 3 is too young. You sound like my dad who has been trying to by my son a gas powered four wheeler since he was 2.

Buy him whatever you want. Just don't let him
Have it until it's time.
My son has had guns since he was an infant, those being pass downs. He never touches a gun without me and he is six.

Not until he is ten.
It had already begun on that day when he first wrote his age in two ciphers and his cousin McCaslin brought him for the first time to the camp, the big woods, to earn for himself from the wilderness the name and state of hunter provided he in his turn were humble and enduring enough.
From The Bear, William Faulkner
