Are you saying this is the case with Pumpkinator?

on that same token, people rate widely available beers poorly due to high distribution

There are a countless number of widely available beers that get great ratings.

'13 was a down year for sure. Had a buddy give me one this past January from 2011, and it nearly blew my tits off. It was amazing!

Was curious why that didn't happen.

I picked some up yesterday. Calandro's was limiting 1 per customer and charging $9.99. So I went down the road and purchased 2 at $7.99 per bottle.

I'm not sure about this year's batch but last year I remember the Pumpkinator thread folks in Houston saying they sold out within just a few hours. So, yes I would consider a beer that you can only buy on 1 day of the year to be pretty rare.

But I don't think that's why people rate it well.

It wouldn't sell out like that to begin with if people didn't like it. The original batch was Divine Reserve #9 that was very well-received and they decided to make it a regular release.

The bigger news is Lone Pint Brewery's Yellow Rose IPA coming out yesterday in bottles

i'm not talking about that nasty pumpkinator either. although i have cross-pollinated some yeast strains to create the ultimate la maven beer. you got it-goatinator

Seems like people have varying tolerances for pumpkin spice in beer. Some can't take much at all.

Guess I'll be making a stop soon to check it out. Not like I wasn't going to stop anyway

i agree

(i.e. Sam Adams Rebel IPA is a solid IPA but has a pretty low BA rating).

strongly disagree. Do not like this one at all. Hops presence isn't there.

Maybe it's just me, but i don't care for session IPA's. Not enough flavor. I'm not expecting a malt bomb, but i do want a slight malt presence.

FYI, i'm not very big on pumpkinator either. I have 1 from 2012 and 2 from 2013 in my fridge.

Whole foods in Metairie had Lagunitas all day IPA and the little sumpin IPA. I also got three Pumpkinators.

Little Sumpin > All Day IMO

I guess my interest in session ipa's is fading. I'd much rather just have a solid APA or a lower ABV IPA if that's what I was looking for.

Albertsons has Lag IPA and Sumpin Sumpin. $8.50 a six pack
Agree, Pumpkinator was not good last year. It got better with age but still nothing to write home about

Should have got some of the bok choy on the hot bar. So good I went back to get more for dinner.

Really like the beer selection at that Whole Foods. Been about two weeks since I last stopped by and I think it's actually expanded a little bit. Always some solid bombers/750mLs in there and the six packs are generally solid.
