Problem with Deanies is they fry all the food together so it all taste the same.

Subject confused me. Lakeview, Bucktown and West End are all neighborhoods in Chicago.

Not for New Orleans people. We like Deanies.

You're thinking of Mother's.

Dude, I drive by there several times a week. There are tour buses parked out front quite a bit.

I just think it's pretty average seafood. Yayy for big piles of fried stuff that all taste the same.

Seriously, I would steer people to R&O's or New Orleans Food and Spirits around the corner with the quickness if they wanted to eat in Bucktown.

Now if they really need great fried seafood, Mr. Ed's Oyster Bar is top notch.

Edit- For the record, I'm not saying Denies is garbage or anything like that.

I love R&O's. I think it's a good choice. The muffalatta is my favorite that I've had. I usually buy a quart of the olive salad when I'm there.

Part of the reason why I think it's a good choice given the situation. You can get two very well done New Orleans classic with the RB poboy and a Muff. The muff would travel well back home too.

It's similar to the Italian beef that is huge up here, but the roast beef poboy in Nola is way better

R&O's will pack the muff "to travel" with the olive salad separate and I think some of the cheese separate. Works well. I've done quite a few times as has a friend of mine who shares my addiction to the muffalattas there.

The Nola roast beef is one of my favorites, so I'm biased. I like both. Just prefer the roast beef

Edit: I've also been trying to eat healthy lately so I haven't had an Italian beef in a while. Still haven't been to Johnny's, but will definitely be checking it out soon

Thanks for all the input. You've taught me trust the SIL. We'll do R&Os this Friday for lunch with a contingent of Chicago relatives. I'll report back with impressions.

Food and Spirit is probably one of my favorite places in the area. Nothing spectacular but i have never had a bad meal there. The new patio is awesome.

R&Os is shite.

The place may feel a little dirty and the waitstaff might need a kick in the arse at times, but you have lost your marbles if you think R&O's is shite.
