The size of the medical team reflects the hospital's intense effort to save Duncan's life, but it also suggests that many other people could have been exposed to the virus during Duncan's time in an isolation unit.
NO shite?!

Do they suggest that less people should've cared for this man?

How about we look at the positive that ONLY 1 OUT OF 70 caught the disease.

Nope. We can't do that. News has to play up the fear factor.

Gullible and afraid people wouldn't keep going back to them for mundane and minute detail updates if that wasn't the case.

Could they not find an Infectious disease doctor to comment on their story.

This seems odd.

Apparently not, so they go with a psychiatrist from Beverly Hills.

Oh yea, thats a real authority right there.

Liberals lost all common sense years ago. Makes perfect sense they would get a psychiatrist from Beverly Hills to be their "expert". Idiots.

If a modern, industrialized country like the U.S. can't treat a single patient without infecting healthcare workers, what chance do third-world countries like Liberia have?

Hell, we aren't even looking at the fact that out of the 5 or 6 people who have been treated here in the states, only one out of the probably 200+ people who interacted with them have caught Ebola.

Pretty damn good stats, IMO.

I have to disagree Ruzil and Scruffy; there is no infectious disease scholar that has the resume of this woman.

LINK

I dare you to find another scholar that has written a movie called "Murder by TV."

quote:

Maintaining a star-studded practice in Beverly Hills, Dr. Lieberman is also well known as a psychiatric expert witness who testifies in high profile trials, and analyzes trials in the media. She has written Murder by TV: A Descent Into Madness, a first-person account of the Jenny Jones Talk Show Murder Trial, where she was the forensic psychiatrist for the defense. Dr. Lieberman has testified before Congress on several occasions, as well, notably regarding the harmful impact of media violence.

That we know of. As you should know, the disease may not manifest for 21 days after infection. While I don't disagree that the stats have thus far been comforting, the waiting period gives an eerie feeling of a ticking time bomb.

This is a huge problem (IMO) in the health field. They are always coming up with new names for everything they do, and sometimes it is whatever name catches on.

A doctor who specializes in "epidemiology" would be someone you would get on your show. "Mental health epidemiology" is a completely different field and obviously a mistake by a producer or some helper in the news room. But being from Beverly Hills she probably got paid well.

While the hype and media spin is over shooting the reality of this disease people have a right to be concerned.

If the public is to rely on the current transmission model of direct contact with bodily fluids or even extended that to droplet spread how is your 1/70 or even 1/200 number supposed to be reassuring?

1 pt being infected with an excessively high mortality disease, which by definition of above transmission should be easily prevented, has caused the infection of one healthcare worker.

Look at it this way.
If every pt admitted with HIV or TB requiring a multiple day stay resulted in 1 of that pts healthcare team contracting TB or HIV, would find that cause for celebration?

I posted a link to her webpage a few posts up. I didn't read all of it, but I don't see anything particularly scholarly about her mental health work, let alone infectious diseases. I personally find this extremely unethical.

So that's what Jesse Jackson was talking about! Big time racist right there! If he would have been white he would have had obviously had 140 people caring for him instead of just 70 and instead of spending a measly 500k on a non- US citizen I am sure it would have been millions if he was a white from say South Africa. The injustice never ceases to amaze me!
