No tool in existence protects your anonymity on the Web better than the software Tor, which encrypts Internet traffic and bounces it through random computers around the world. But for guarding anything other than Web browsing, Tor has required a mixture of finicky technical setup and software tweaks. Now routing all your traffic through Tor may be as simple as putting a portable hardware condom on your ethernet cable.

It's a good concept. I wonder how well it would work with BitTorrent as they tell you to NOT use BitTorrent through Tor.

EDIT:

This came up on Reddit today:

Hi guys,
So everyone noticed the massive hype about Anonabox router that is supposed to be used for automatic "anonymization" worldwide.
I didn't like it from the start, considering I've been using the same on Raspberry Pi, WR703n clone called Gl-iNet (powered by OpenWRT) and because it looked like devices mentioned above.
What really pissed me off is because they said THEY had built FOUR prototypes before.
Picture: https://i.imgur.com/wgpd2bh.png [1]
First on the left is a board that looks like PC Engines ALIX board, I don't recognize numbers 2 and 3, but 4th is definitely a Chinese clone of TL-WR703N (and there's gazillion of them).
How is this THEIR prototype and how is the hardware open source? As for software, they published some code, since I'm not a coder I won't judge it but it looks like OpenWRT to me.
Here's Anonabox 4th prototype with picture of Chinese router:

Here's PC Engines Alix https://www.pcengines.ch/pic/alix.jpg [4]
See anything similar?
YOU CAN EVEN BUY THEIR PROTOTYPE ON ALIEXPRESS FOR 20$: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-2014-300Mbps-WT3020A-Multiprotocol-Portable-Mini-WIFI-Router-with-USB-data-line-Wireless-Router-wi/1691403728.html[5]
I bet if you order thousands you get each under 10$...
So to keep things short, here's what bothers me:
They say hardware and software is open source, which isn't the case
They say they had four prototypes and all are THEIR prototypes. Which is a blatant lie, they are reselling Chinese devices.
They will sell the device for about 50$, while the Chinese ones go under 20$.
I don't mind having TOR enabled router, but I most certainly don't want to give money to a campaign that's making false claims and it can be a scam. What makes things worse, they already have 367,119 $ on their campaign.

The hardware design of the Anonabox is also intended to work in the most sensitive international situations: It uses a micro-USB as a power source, a common standard around the world, and its small size is meant to allow easy concealment. Germar points out that its rounded corners means it can even be stowed in a bodily orifice. And it can be destroyed more easily than a larger router. “Maybe it’s too late and the police are already downstairs, so you smash the box with a brick and throw the pieces out the window,” he says. “Or maybe you just crush it by stepping on it with your shoe and flush the pieces down the toilet.”

I don't think he's referring to ones mouth....

Are you interested in overthrowing your government? Do you sell hard drugs online? Or guns to terrorists? Here, have this portable, very easy-to-use anonymizer. No security agency from any government had a hand in putting this together. No sir, not at all. You're *perfectly* safe, trust us.

To be fair, you have to worry about that with any software too.

Pretty sure they are thinking about people in countries like China where political dissension is a serious crime and internet connectivity is heavily monitored and censored.

Probably. But NSA isn't exactly asleep at the switch, they are very interested in tapping "friendly" activists just to get a sense of what is going on. And if they snare someone here, that's a nice bonus.

Does it matter if they're keeping records of everything already?

I also came to post this:
