So a little over a month ago I bought $3100 in VFINX.

It was at 185 when I bought.

It's down to 176.

Stay the course, right?

Are you planning on leaving it in there for 30 years? Of course stay the course.

Yeah. But shite I didn't expect to see it drop so much right afterwards.

If it's a long term investment I suggest not checking it too often

It will drive you crazy

Stay the course, this is a short-term to intermediate term correction, basically nothing is in the green over the past month.

You should be jumping for joy at the opportunity to buy more at a cheaper price.

Excellent point considering I have a few hundred dollars to put in right now.

Solid advice. I used to check mine hourly and would freak out at a sudden mini drop

Basically everything has lost money the last few weeks. I have 20 years to retirement so I'm happy about it. I hope everything drops even more.

Best single quote on investing ever IMO

With that kind of investment you shouldn't even think about it let alone look at it. If you want to be a long term investor in broad based funds, just set it and forget it.

Is it possible to take roth balance and reinvest in the same ira at the lower cost? For instance, if I had 10k with VFINX at $180 and it's at $173, take the 10k and buy at the 173 so I have more shares?

StringedInstruments:

I would definitely take a look at this thread and scroll to ThaBigFella's post (fifth post down). Read his well-written post, and look at the stock chart for PM as an example. If you use Google Finance, be sure to look at it turned on at the 5 year level so you can see the most dividend prices at one time.
