I want to start by saying that I am a huge supporter of Coach Miles. Some of his calls make me scratch my head, but more often than not it works somehow. On top of success on the field, he is an excellent man and mentor to the young men he influences everyday.

With that being said, I'm younger than a lot of the posters on here. I'm wondering who some of the other top candidates were for the job after Coach Saban left and who y'all wanted to be hired at the time.

Also, for the people calling for his head, who do you think Skip could have hired that would have won more SEC & National Championships to date?

Buddy of mine, who posts here, worked in the Ath Dept at the time. Swore up and down that Sabans hand picked person to take over the program was none other than Houston Dale Nutt.

I still remember thatBobby Petrino "pulled" his name from consideration after the interview because he bombed. I would suspect he wouldn't interview well. He's another type of good coach. He is a bad human though.

Lot fewer than you would think. The top guys were not going to leave their schools then or now. So, the next pool would be the Les Miles types who had success and made a previously downtrodden program respectable and relevant again. Dan Mullen, Art Briles and Hugh Freeze would be classic examples this year. Ron Roberts at SLU and Hudspeth at ULL would be up and coming coaches who might not warrant an LSU type job but maybe a less traditional power such as Ole Miss or Oklahoma State or similar program.

Butch Davis - he had just resigned from the Browns.

I've said recently that if Miles were to leave for whatever reason I'd love to have Art Briles

That was not even close to being it. One guy in the room said used the word flake when describing BP.

yeah Butch was my favorite. Jack del Rio was really big on the Rant, and was supposed to interview but didn't.

I was pretty pissed that Spurrier got snapped up a month or so before Saban left. damn you Lou Holth.

Agreed......I know a guy who worked for him at Louisville (who also worked for Saban) and said BP was the worst human being he's ever met.
