My fiance and I are going to Grand Cayman in February over the Valentines Day/ Mardi Gras weekend. We will be there for 6 nights. We've got a boat rented for one day to take us to Stingray City, Starfish point and Rum point. Is there anything else we would need to check out while down there? Neither of us have ever been. We're gonna be staying at the Westin Resort on Seven Mile Beach.

The turtle farm is legit.

I'd love to just charter a catamaran and be out on the water all day boozing it up.

I wouldn't spend more than an hour at Stingray City. Check the box and back on the cat. Similar feelings about Rum Point. Stop and have a drink or lunch then move on. Really touristy.

The Queen Elizabeth Botanical Park is pretty cool if you're in to that sort of thing.

Oh, rent a car.

Would that be more economical than taking cabs?

If you are a Guy Harvey fan, he has a store there, where he often paints. When my family and I went he was there painting upstairs in the building. He signed some merchandise for us and talked to us for a little while.

Depends on what all you guys want to see on the island. From Seven Mile Beach, you can cab it to most restaurants and bars. However, if you want to see the rest of the island (and for a six day stay, I would), you'll need a car. Pretty big place.

For instance, the Botanical Gardens is about 40 mins by car.

The Westin may have a shuttle to take you guys around 7 Mile Beach, though?

Find a local to buy your liquor. There's around a 100% tax if you don't have a local ID

Stingray City and snorkeling are obviously a big target for the area. Several of the hotels on Seven Mile Beach have artificial reefs built behind them and there is a small park just North of where you are staying where you can snorkel as well. IMHO, you do not need to book a boat to go snorkeling as there are plenty of opportunities directly off the beaches. Buy snorkeling equipment and bring it with you. You can buy much better equipment for a fraction of the cost of renting and it really doesn't take up that much space if you just rent some cheap fins.

We booked a short bus tour of the island which was fun. We hit the turtle farm, botanical garden and Pedro St. James house.

There is a restaurant on the East end called Vivine's Kitchen. It was the best meal we had and very popular with the locals. If you want turtle stew or other favorites this is the place. Be aware that it is a hike from the resort area to the East end. A cab ride will cost you $100 round trip. Renting a car is actually the way to go.

Caybrew is a local brewery which does free tours and tastings. There is also a rum distillery called 7 Fathoms located at Port George where you can check out their offerings. Since you are there be sure to check out the Havana Club bar off Seven Mile Beach as its a good opportunity to sample Cuban rum and/or cigars.

If you want to smoke a Cuban cigar there is an authorized La Casa Del Habano distributor in the Port George tourist area. Virtually every other Cuban cigar sold on the island is a fake, trust me. Its worth a visit if for no other reason than to see the little museum they've built which has some old advertisements and cigar presses, etc.

All things are expensive on the island. There's just no way around it. Have fun...

Tukkas Restaurant out on the East End is very good, too. If you rent a car, get ready for traffic circles, oops roundabouts.

Some great diving in the Cayman's. I'd look at getting certified locally between now and Feb. Getting certified locally would give you a chance to see if you like it or not, before your trip. But, if you don't want to spend the time and money to get certified, they've got some beginner scuba dives you can take while in the Cayman's without being certified.

Places to eat:

The Wharf- get a reservation for around 8:30 and ask to sit next to water. They feed the tarpon (very cool to watch) at 9 pm.

Calypso's- on Bayside, excellent.

Cracked Conch- go there for sunset. great view. Also great snorkeling

Casanova- Italian, in George Town. One of our favorites.

Lighthouse- worth the 1/2 hour drive if you're adventurous.

Reefgrill- solid.

Ritz Carlton & Westin- several very nice restaurants.

Coconut Joe's- go there for pancakes. Roosters walking around.

Chicken, Chicken- great lunch place for rotisserie chicken. In a strip mall, but very good food. We go there every year on the first day.

Sunshine Grill- best hamburgers on island. Walk across street from Westin. Good value lunch/dinner.

Snorkel Spots:

-Eden Rock- that's the name of the spot. It's in George Town and it's right near where the cruise ships are anchored. Park at the Eden Rock dive shop and drop in water right there. Amazing views.

-Cemetery Reef

-Governor's Reef- can easily walk there from Ritz. Near Westin, and right in front of Governor's house.

No really, there's a town called Hell. You can go there, and get a postcard from Hell. But no, it's certainly not a Must Do, i was just going for the lame joke.

Rackham's Waterfront Bar and Grill in town is a great place for lunch or just having a drink. We went there almost everyday. It was our favorite place. Food is great and not extremely expensive. The bartenders are friendly and great to talk to. They will fill you in on the nightlife activities if you are interested.

We did not particularly care for The Wharf Restaurant. Food was marginal at best and very expensive.

Loved the Sunshine Grill. Great food and reasonably priced.

The Town of Hell was interesting, but not much to do. Take a few pictures. We probably spent maybe an hour there.

My husband dives, so he did a lot of diving. I was able to go on the boat with him to snorkel. That was a lot of fun. The Captain took us to Stingray City to snorkel with the stingrays after their dive. The weather was really, really windy that day with fairly high seas and it was extremely dangerous. So beware of that. You would be snorkeling and all of a sudden, you were quite a distance front the sand bar and it was difficult swimming back.

Overall, we loved Grand Cayman. The locals are extremely friendly and the bus system on Seven Mile Island is cheap and easy to use. It is quite expensive, but you can find some places with really good food at reasonable prices.

Have fun!
