I really liked it obviously. it's good and i watched it fast because i enjoyed it. however, i am very confused so far why this show is considered the GOAT.

im gonna watch the whole thing and it appears as though it gets even better from what ive read, but it only came across as pretty good to me so far. what did i miss? what makes season 1 so good? are future seasons better? how much?

i feel like from all the shite ive read over the years that this show was gonna blow my mind or something. probably fell into the trap where something gets so hyped up that it cannot possibly live up to it.

please no discussion of anything past season 1. RIP Wallace

I don't think your body is even ready for what's coming up on the show.

Season 1 is great as a standalone season, but it really only sets the stage for what's to come in future seasons. The scope of the show grows and the characters really start to develop the further on you go. I don't think you'll fully appreciate the show until you're finished with it and can see the whole story. And to answer your questions, I personally liked the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th seasons a good bit more than the 1st.

The Wire combines excellent storytelling, pacing, authenticity and social commentary.

Season 2 is drastically different than Season 1 but might even hit stronger notes about our country.

Those are the two best seasons, imo, and the rewatch value is stronger.

You have to keep watching to get the full impact, but it's so worth it (I'm in the middle of Season 3 myself).

I'm watching episode 3 of season 2 right now. Really good series. I was hooked around the S1E3.

nice.

not a lot of people like Season 2 on this board. When people are given a further explanation on where the product (the drugs) come from they lose interest.

they'd rather watch young teens or OG's get capped on the street instead.

I watched both shows pretty recently for the first time, and while I liked The Wire, I liked The Sopranos a lot more

For me, the pinnacle of the series is Seasons 3 and 4. The way in which the storylines are crafted and interweave in unexpected ways is just brilliant.

You'll understand when you finish the whole thing.

Future seasons are different. Each season focuses on a different aspect of B'more.

1 - Drugs
2 - Docks/seaport
3 - Government bureaucracy
4 - School system
5 - Print media

So each season has its own focus, with overall plots throughout the run of the show. Because of that, a lot of people hate season two. But it's just as important as the rest of the seasons, and is a very good stand-alone season (if tha makes sense).

And one thing I remember saying in my thread on here about The Wire once I finished it was that it was the single best show I've ever seen, and I don't really know how to explain why. It's just good. And of the shows I've seen since then, it's still #1 for me.

Well, but all of them are really about drugs.
