demagogic politicians of every stripe, and the rash actions that could follow. Euthanizing pets, as happened in Spain, without any evidence, but "just in case." Travel restrictions, cancellation of public gatherings. This stupid virus may succeed where Al Quaeda couldn't in shutting down our way of life and/or crashing the economy.

There are legitimate reasons to be worried about a sneaky deadly virus that has shocking mortality rates and long incubation periods. And taking precautions seem to be a reasonable response.

Especially killing all the cats and lawyers.

I wouldn't go quite this far, but I upvoted for the sentiment. The overreaction has the potential to be more damaging than the virus itself.
