Just Jimmy Smith passing along info, but interesting stuff.

This week, everyone involved in the NBA had reason to smile, about 24 billion reasons, thanks to the unveiling of a television contract extension with a pair of broadcast and digital entities that is worth a reported $24 billion.

* * *

One outlet speculates, through sources, that the share will be in the neighborhood of $70 million for each of the 30 team owners as the projected salary cap could rise to $84 million. Another report estimated a possibly $91.2 million salary cap for 2016-17.

* * *

In the long term, for the New Orleans Pelicans, it's as though they've hit the jackpot.

Power forward Anthony Davis, the franchise's centerpiece, will be eligible for a max-money extension in July 2015 at the end of the moratorium period and the first years of that new contract will coincide with the influx of new television money resulting in a more substantial salary bump than he could have expected.

Even though every team will have more money to offer free agents, the current CBA, and the player retention rights afforded New Orleans under that agreement, give the Pelicans an advantage over any other suitor.

New Orleans can offer more years, and more money, to the players currently under contract which should be attractive unless a player has a distinct distaste for remaining with the team.

* * *

That should help after this season in the quest to retain center Omer Asik, if the Pelicans want to keep him. Because the Pelicans own Asik's Bird Rights, New Orleans can offer more years and more money in a new contract than anyone else in the league.

I'm not sure how the new TV deal changed anything for Asik and/or Davis. Bird Rights haven't changed.

In this instance, I think the numbers are what are impressive. Theoretically, they provide more flexibility throughout the roster.

Are some of our fans really this dumb?

Davis is gone. He will be going to LA, just like the last guy. The pelicans will suffer longer than the Saints did before they went to the playoffs.

And from what James said, expect another strike pretty soon. It's all about the money.

Yeah He could make more on his NBA contract in New Orleans......But thats peanuts chicken feed compared to what he would make in endorsements in these bigger markets.....Not even close......So assuming he would resign is foolish......He could be pulling a Lebron THE DECISION and bolt for Miami type thing.....Like I said a 50/50 shot of keeping the brow....

That's BS because KD is getting ridiculous endorsements in OKC of all places.
