My son is a freshman running back and wears the useless tiny arm sweatbands like a lot of players. Anyway, the ref Thursday night told him to pull them down below his elbow or they would disqualify him. He was wearing them around biceps.

Can anyone think why this would be a rule? Ever heard of such nonsense?

Don't justify this.

Why are the refs worried about what happens on the bench.

Just tell him to wear the sweatbands properly. Sounds like your son is trying to be one of those "look at me" players

You should slap your son for being "that guy"

We couldn't wear them above the elbow my senior year in HS either.

there's probably a safety issue involved... NFL players wear them

they are really picky about that kind of stuff.

some ref crews will make everyone take them off. they claim its a safety issue

Wearing sweatbands above the elbow serves absolutely NO purpose! It's a kid trying to look "cool". I'd make them take it off as well.

stuff like that was rampant when i was in higj school

visors, armbands, towels, mesh caps.

the worst thing is the 5th string runningback that will never see the field getting 20 pounds of tape on his ankles and wrists because he wants to look like billy badass

When I coached HS football I asked an official one time and he said he heard it was because some kid in Texas was tackled by the wristband and had to have his arm amputated. I thought it was a BS, lame excuse.

I think it also depends on the officiating crew and how anal they are about stuff like that.

In other words, you have nothing of value to offer to the conversation, but just wanted people to "look at you".

Gotcha

sweatbands above the elbow serve absolutely no purpose. Can you name a purpose for sweatbands to be worn above the elbow? If you can name a purpose other than looking cool then let's hear it... If not then HUSH
