Anybody ever purchased an extra barrel for handi-rifle?

I bought a 45-70 h&r handi rifle back when they were only gun allowed during muzzleloader season. Now I never use it and was thinking about buying a different caliber barrel for it and get some use out of it.
Was thinking maybe a 30-30 or 308 and have it as a kids rifle or use it when hunting from a climber. Anybody done this?

Serious question, what does hunting from a climber have anything to do with the type of rifle you carry?

I have often thought about buying another barrel for my TC. It is a muzzleloader in its current manifestation.

Its not the caliber but because the handi-rifles are small and light.

Short and light is much nicer than long and heavy in a climber.
I think H&R's have to be sent to the factory to get the new barrel fitted. Probably not a big deal at all, but you won't have the gun for a few weeks.

You are likely too late for this year. I got a 280 barrel for mine a few years ago. You send your receiver to them and they fit the new barrel to it. They don't always have everything in stock so you need to make sure they do before sending. When I sent mine it was about 2 months until I got it back.

That's no problem this is a rifle I don't use. I have another rifle I use all hunting season.

Probably can buy an entire new rifle for the cost of sending it in and getting a new barrel fitted. I would look into that, maybe sell the 45-70 if you're so inclined.
ETA: Oh, and .243 ftw

I've heard they dropped 30-30 from their selection.
Not sure if true, but that's a good caliber for handis.
Rimmed cartridges are said to be better in crack barrels.
