So, does the "no events on Saturdays in the fall" lose some steam in down years?

Mail comes and we get an invitation for the wedding of the son of one my wife's co-workers (and pretty close friend of ours). It is at 5:00 on the day of the LSU/Alabama game.

My wife is all "I don't know why they put it on that day. You don't have to come to it". (this principle has been long established in my home).

Funny thing is, depending on how the season plays out this might be one of the only years I don't mind missing that game. But just thinking that makes me feel like I'm not worthy of my fan card.

No, if you put an event during the fall the same day as a major LSU home game or the same time as a major LSU away game, you have no right to complain when people don't show up.

Is it a little silly that people would prioritize a football game over a wedding? Yes, but if a bride and groom can't see that football is VERY important to lots of people that they would be inviting, then it shows that they are self-centered and deserve lots of no-shows.

Here's how you know if it's ok to plan your wedding.
LSU vs Alabama in Baton Rouge-no wedding
LSU vs Alabama in Tuscaloosa at night- ok if the wedding is in the early afternoon
LSU vs Alabama in Tuscaloosa during day- ok if night wedding

LSU vs Towson-ok, no one gives a shite about that game
LSU vs West Virginia in Baton Rouge- no, marquee non-conference game.

Rules for scheduling weddings in the fall:
1. If you're from a rural area, don't schedule it during hunting season if you can avoid it.
2. Don't schedule it during an LSU home SEC game or marquee OOC game
3. Don't schedule it at the same time as an LSU SEC away game (this is pretty much impossible to do without blind luck due to TV), marquee OOC game (aka, have it early in the afternoon), or post-season game.
4. Try to avoid the bye week (if possible) due to it generally being ridiculously busy for everyone.
5. Don't play "Strokin'" at your wedding unless you're trashy.

No offense, but I don't understand how anyone claiming to be an LSU could ever feel this way. I mean, like maybe if we were 0-6 right now.

I've said this before, Yes it sucks that they scheduled it on a day like that, but IRL friends > LSU Football. At least in most normal cases.

No weddings on game days should be in everyone's rule book.

No, you are good to not go. No matter how bad the year is, LSU Saturdays are our second holy day of obligation. All of our family and anybody who knows me and my family realize not to even ask about an event on football Saturdays. My dad and I actually skipped his niece's wedding once because she married into some Yankee East Coast family who just did not get it. They remain upset to this day that they were stupid enough to pay for a wedding for 300+ people, and the actual attendance was around 45.

I laughed.

Just don't schedule a wedding in the fall. The groom usually doesn't get much say but if my fiancée cant understand my no wedding in the fall rule I wont marry her... might be sad but that's how I feel

Nothing wrong with scheduling weddings on game days.
Nothing wrong with skipping.
Nothing wrong with going.
Nothing wrong with being mad at someone for scheduling, skipping, or going.
Nothing wrong with letting someone else's choice affecting your relationship with him or her.

The only thing that's a total pussy move? Going to the wedding and then bitching that you missed the game. Either grow up and get over it, or stand up for yourself and enjoy the game.

The BAMA game is trending towards a 11:00 kickoff so you may be fine.

They're not your real friends and they are obviously not from the South....even if they live here.

It's simply considered rude to have a wedding during football season unless they have it on a:

Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday....who cares about Pac 10 football anyway.....
Friday
Sunday

It's 2014 and folks should know this by now.....you don't have weddings on Saturdays from August to January.

Last Saturday I had to work an event for a school during the Auburn game, and tomorrow I have a wedding reception during the Florida game. It's like this every year though, even during 2011 I saw people scheduling things for big home and away games.

Luckily I can watch the game on my computer at work though, so it works out for me.
