5-year-old Elizabeth was sent home after school officials made her take a questionnaire to evaluating her for suicidal thoughts, then had her sign the safety contract promising to contact an adult if she was thinking of suicide or homicide. This all happened while her mom waited in the lobby to pick her up, the upset parent told WPMI.
According to her mom, Elizabeth didn't know most of the words on the contract she signed. "Suicide," in particular, was a new one for her.
"Mommy, daddy, what is suicide?" Elizabeth's mother says she asked.
The school, E.R. Dickson Elementary, didn't respond to WPMI's request for comment on whether treating 5-year-olds as suicide risks is normal protocol in these situations.
Elizabeth's mom said school officials recommended the 5-year-old see a psychiatrist. She refused.

Better than the opposite, I guess.

did she contact an adult while signing the contract?

So many problems with that "contract."

What are they going to do to her if she kills herself, sue her?

While the kid may indeed need counseling, this suicide contract for a 5 year old is fricking stupid
Posted on 10/10/14 at 2:43 pm to arseinclarse
Ummm I believe she would need parental consent

So, these jerkoffs thought that signing a contract would somehow keep a kid from committing suicide?
They thought they were avoiding litigation and they landed right in it. Wonderful. I hope this happens to more schools.

The ripples of that Ole Miss loss will be felt for decades...

Suicide contracts in general are stupid. I just imagine someone thinking "I really want to kill myself right now, but I can't because I signed a contract".
Having a 5 year old sign any kind of contract though is not right and I think is illegal?

The age of consent in Bama is 12 btw.

Parental Consent or not a person does not have the capacity to enter into a contract until they are 18.. Legally speaking

It works for abstinence so it should work for suicide as well, amirite?!

How long is the contract for? Is there a buyout option?
Posted on 10/10/14 at 2:52 pm to MadMaxwell
yeah this kid definitely needs to hire jimmy sexton.

That's pretty fricked up.
A google search says that the youngest person known to take their own life was a 6 year old girl from Oregon.
She was sent to her room for arguing with her Mother. She hung herself with a belt.

I made a cardboard AK for a middle school english class presentation once, the teacher kept it and just threw it away after the year was over. I never got in trouble. Hmm.
