I just found out united occasionally offers last minute flight deals from/to random locations.
They come out days before and you have to fly either Friday or Saturday and come back Monday or Tuesday. Great for a weekend trip if you just want to take off somewhere.

LINK

I searched and haven't found any info about other airlines doing this. Anyone heard anything about this?

Yep. I get them for all three legacy carriers just about every week.

I get one from American every week. Same deal, leave Friday night or Saturday and come back Monday or Tuesday. The problem is that it's usually only for the early flight out Sat morning and Tues night return.

The cheapest ones out of DFW are usually to shitty places like Waco, TX or Lawton, OK

Get rid of your "primary city" in your profile and you'll get all the air specials nationwide

Miles or Segments?

This is the 1st year I've hit anything based on miles rather than segments

I almost got to Diamond this year. No more travel in the new job so I'll enjoy my Platinum this year and next before I lose status forever

After getting guilt tripped into a wedding last weekend, I've set a personal best for travel this year.

2 trips to Boston - both in May
1 trip to Cedar Point - August
1 trip to San Fran - Sept
1 trip to Connecticut - October
1 trip coming up to Miami - November
1 trip coming up to DC/Spain - December

I'm enjoying it, but the weekend trips are kind of brutal. I can see why business flyers get worn down with my little taste of it. And seriously, screw early flights. Trying to avoid those at all costs.

For someone who travels for business, they chuckle at that travel. I would actually love a business schedule like that...you are going all over the place and only traveling once every ~4-5 weeks or so.

Tell me about it. If I never have to sit on a full flight again it will be to soon for me. Both flights this week were packed and next weeks flights are allready almost full.

Oh I know. That's what I was getting at. Some of these sucked due to boozing/flight times. Doing it all week every week would suck.

Why? I only fly early. Much lower chance of a weather delay and I avoid rush hour traffic on both ends that way. Completely disagree with this.

I think you missed the part where I'm getting up before 6am after boozing.

I'm not a morning person and am well aware of the advantages of leaving early. Sometimes however, i'd rather casually go about my day

Depends on the purpose of the trip. If it's work I prefer the 1st flight out. If it's going to BR for a football game, I don't want anything before 4pm on the return leg.

Yup, and I've been failing miserably at the return leg scheduling.
