And be on first mission to Mars.

LINK

Really cool seeing someone with drive and passion that knows what they want to do with their life from a young age.

I mean good for her for trying to reach her goals and all but why is she giving motivational speeches?

So, wanting to do things is an accomplishment now?

Pretty cool about the languages, though, but she reminds me of Rick Moranis' kid in Parenthood.

Heard about this on NPR this morning. From Baton Rouge. Would love to see her accomplish her goal.

That was me 10 years ago. I went to space camp in Huntsville and even went to the little knock-off version at Northwestern State a several times. Watching the shuttle program and the next gen space programs get dismantled while I was in high school killed that dream for me. I wanted to work for NASA mission control for that mission. In college, I filled out an application, as a joke, to be the Director of Martian Space Exploration for NASA. I had interviewed with some of the contractors working for the new contract at Michoud for the next generation of spacecraft. Jacobs wouldn't interview me due to lack of experience. CH2M Hill liked me, but Jacobs won the contract

Maybe some day

Does no one have a problem that this girl is being brainwashed by her parents to sacrifice her life?

And no one has a morality issue with this?

No different than parents grooming (pimping) their kids to be the next Tiger Woods.

Why not? Wanting to humble and weaken the world's only superpower got Obama elected twice.

Except that Tiger Woods didn't die when he was in his 20s on a suicide mission.

Maybe so that the kids that are only a few years younger than her may become inspired to reach lofty goals since she has accomplished so much at a young age

She is the only kid to attend every space camp that's offered globally, so that's pretty cool

What the frick is this?
So she's one of millions of kids that want to be an astronaut when they grow up, but her parents have lots of money to send her to expensive camps so now she gets to give motivational speaches?

Not a feel good story IMO
