I figured I 'd get better answers on this board. I haven't flown in out of N.O. for several years. I have an 10:30 a.m. flight Sat.. How much lead time do I need to allow for security etc.....

Seems about right.
One thing to remember don't cut it too close they close the doors about 10 minutes before scheduled departure, once closed you could have the pope and the president with you and the door isn't opening. Twice I have watched my plane roll away from the gate when I was there before scheduled departure a major PIA.

This past Saturday I had a flight at 12:30 and it took 45 minutes to get through. I got to the airport at 11:15. If it's not a holiday I usually show up one hour and 15 minutes early, if a holiday 2.5-3. I've never been late flying out of MSY doing that.

Heading out to cancun right now. Flight is 8:20. It took all of 20 minutes to check bags and get thru security. We did check in online and used curbside bag check. American airlines

Depends on what airline you flying. Southwest and U.S. Airlines. That terminal is a piece of cake. Delta side is usually a lot longer.
Biggest tip. Check in online even if you have bags. Look and see if you have a TSA Pre-check logo on your boarding pass. If you do, should take about 10 min to get through.

give yourself an hour to 1.5 hrs before the flight. MSY is an antiquated shite hole of an airport. Between check in and the TSA line, I wouldn't want the hassle of being late. Not to mention, if you park off site (which is cheaper), you'll want the extra time.

I flew from nola monday. 2:25 flight. Checked my bag curbside. Took maybe 10 minutes to get through security from the time I got out of the shuttle. I did somehow get to go through tsa pre check even though I didn't sign up. But the other lines weren't much longer.

9:30 should be fine. I've cut it way closer than that (showed up in the terminal about 30 min before departure), checked a bag, gone through a full security line and still had time to buy coffee outside of my gate.

I fly out of MSY 2-3 times a month on average. The early AM flights are brutal. If you leave at 6am your arse better be in the TSA line by 5 at the latest.
Afternoon flights if found easier. I would show up 45 minutes before flights leaves and have no issues parking, getting my ticket and going through security. Granted I never check a bag.

An hour is plenty of time. I usually fly southwest. Dropped the gf off Monday morbing at 0515 for a 0600 delta flight. She was through in 15 minutes.

A lot has to do with the terminal.
Terminal D with DL and UA is pretty quick even with large volumes in the queues. C is hit or miss and B with Southwest can be a nightmare to clear security.
Always err on the side of caution, nothing worse than missing your flight and screwing up your trip. Especially nowadays with planes as full as they are, making an alternate flight as standby can be very hard.
