Use any standard velocity load. They are much quieter than high velocity stuff.

I use Remington sub-sonic.

Why do you need quieter stuff?

its more just just me maybe wanting to experiment with new "technology". i have an old winchester model 74 which my dad gave me (loads through the stock) and its very very quiet. i got a ruger .22 for a xmas present about 6 or 7 years ago but its so loud. i use the same ammo for each and for whatever reason the winchester is much more quiet. thought maybe trying out "suppressor" rounds could help.

What are the lengths of the barrels on the two guns?

If you want quiet try aguila super colibri. When shot out a 16" barrel it sounds about as loud as someone snapping their fingers. Quietest I've heard without a suppressor. It won't cycle the action on a 10/22 though.

Rogue,
This is the first I've heard of CCI's new ammo. Naturally I'm skeptical how "new" this ammo is......CCI's sold lots of subsonic ammo through the years; I bet they've "tweaked" one of their loads and are now marketing this new load w/ the name, "Suppressor", to get at the suppressor market. OTOH, I have shot just about every other subsonic ammo around. Of the one's I've shot, in my opinion CCI "Quiet Ammo" was by far the quietest. "Suppressor" uses a 45 gr HP bullet at 970 fps. "Quiet Ammo" uses a 40 gr solid point bullet at 710 fps. I can assure you that even though it's not a HP bullet, "Quiet Ammo" will quickly dispatch a head shot coon at 40 yds.

its not a matter of me having to wear earplugs, its a .22 for god sake, its the fact of scaring away everything in a 5 mile vicinity

I do. In fact, at the range I wear both plugs and muffs. I started trying out different sub sonic loads some years ago in relation to squirrel hunting, trying to avoid alarming other squirrels from a shot. I continued experimenting w/ subsonic loads out of curiosity and because I had to do some animal control around my house and didn't want to alarm the neighbors.

I'm working on that, too.

You won't bother your neighbors anymore. Which suppressor did you go with?

there's your problem with any quiet or subsonic round. just be ready to hand cycle the bolt after every shot.

With my suppressor on my S&W 15-22 subsonic rounds cycle with no problem at all. All that you hear is the bolt going back and forth.

I haven't bought it yet, but I'll probably end up w/ a Spectre II from Silencerco.

So, what kind of firearm are you planning to shoot them from?
