I've been looking for some new horror stuff to get into this Halloween and have been watching some Tales from the Darkside episodes ("Inside the Closet" and "Halloween Candy" in particular).

However, I don't really know a whole lot about any of the titles mentioned in the OP other than they seem to have a cult following and I have enjoyed what I've seen of them so far. So, would someone be willing to kind of guide me through the episodes/movies?
What are some can't-miss stories/episodes?
And what other horror anthologies should I know about if these appeal to me (Twilight Zone can also be lumped into the above, I would think)?

frickin love me some October Horror Month

The original Twilight Zone is so, so fricking good. Not sure how much you've seen of it, but there are a lot of really, really good/cool episodes.

The Creepshow movies are both decent. I believe Stephen King wrote all the stories. I know he was heavily involved in them anyway. He stars in one of the segments in the first movie too. I never watched the Tales From the Crypt show but they also have two movies. The first one is called Demon Knight and is pretty good. Bordello of Blood sucked. Those are both just one story.

I was too young when Creepshow was on the air but I remember watching Tales from the Crypt and Tales from the Darkside.

Friday the 13th too!

And I know its borderline horror but I used like the War of The Words tv series too.

Creepshow movies are good but definitely on the campy side.

Tales from the Darkside and Tales from the Crypt were both hit and miss.

Original Zone is solid. Wouldn't hurt to watch all of the Zone and don't forget Outer Limits.

The new outer limits also had some good episodes too.

With half hour horror/ suspense / sci-fi you have plenty of misses. I think Zone was the best of all.

What about Masters of Horror that recently came out? I see Del Toro and Carpenter were involved in a few episodes.

"Tales from the Darkside"

I absolutely loved this as a kid and would sneak and watch it, along with Morgus. You have me all nostalgic now.

I actually haven't seen Masters of Horror. I've moved on from the horror genre. Don't watch it often anymore.

Takes from the Darkside had that muted depressing 80s production plus the music. Worth a watch I guess.

Tales from the Crypt was a fun HBO show. Crypt keeper was the man.

I agree with whoever suggested Twilight Zone.

Tales from the crypt was extremely hit or miss but being shown on HBO was a plus.. Haven't seen enough of the tales from the dark side to really have an opnion but I would bet it's also hit or miss..

Night Gallery was also Rod Sterling..

Had the original story "battleground"
Which was re-made a couple of years ago for the TNT special - Stephen King's Nightmare's and Dreamscapes. Love stories about little plastic army guys! Plus William Hurt.

Night Gallery had a really campy episode where the actor who played Gomez Adams was married to Phyliss Diller who nagged his arse off all day long. The horror part (apart from a nagging Phyliss Diller) was when she died, SHE NAGGED HIM FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE!!!

Morgus was awesome and you know it. It wasn't supposed to be scary, you realize that right?

Cant go wrong with Stephen King's Cats Eye and Silver Bullet.
