Not your Southern Gentleman holding a door for a lady thread.

How do you handle it when another dude is approaching?

I ask because of something that happened this morning. Got out of car at gym and was a good TEN yards away from the door. Another dude was holding the door open and looking at me. It was immediately awkward and I looked away expecting him to move on. But no, he stood there and held the door until I got to it.

Inappropriate? Polite? Weird? Whatever the current term for person of an alternative lifestyle is currently?

What did people do without the Internet to ask every single question or thought that came to their mind?

When in doubt, hold the door.

if someone is basically right behind me, I hold the door open for them and let them walk in/out first regardless of gender

If the dude is close behind you can hold it open. Like, 10 ft. Pretty much if you know there's someone behind you when you're opening the door, hold it open for another sec or two.

not weird to hold a door open for another guy. it shows you are polite and have manners. it pisses me off when i am walking right behind someone leaving the office, and they just let the door go behind them. it shows me they have no class and are clueless to anything going on around them.

Agreed. But the whole thing with me being so far away seemed strange.

Ya, that's pretty awkward. A bit of a judgement call on when someone is too far away to hold the door open for.

Glad the OT is able to discuss everyday things like door-holding and hallway-passing etiquette...but it's lunchtime, so I'm ready for a good arseinclarse thread

As long as I don't have to wait for someone to get to the door I'll hold it, but if I have to wait more than a couple seconds, all bets are off.

10 yards might be a little far away to start holding the door, but I typically hold the door if any person is a few feet behind me. I don't like letting doors slam in other people's faces.
