Underclassmen to NFL is not an excuse for THIS coaching staff

Yes, 3 or 4 years of juniors and some some third year sophomores has finally caught up with LSU, that much is undeniable.
But all the sunshine pumpers using that as an excuse for this teams struggles are flat out wrong.
Why? Because that is what Miles asked for.
It has been well documented that LSUs early NFL draft entrants has been used as a major recruiting tool by Miles.
Even Chavis has been quoted as saying "If we recruit the right guys, they will be gone in 3 years".
So, if 3 and out is a recruiting tactic and your coaches know and actually expect it, then there is NO excuse for not having young guys ready to play.
In fact, I would argue that if Miles actively recruits guys to come and stay for only 3 years that he is really not the great recruiter people say he is.
Also, that recruiting tactic is hurting the program as evidenced by the disaster we see on the field this year.

He just says that to lure recruits. Any coach in their right mind would want their best players to stick around.

I'm not saying he doesn't want them to stay, but his recruiting tactic built this mess.

Not really. They were leaving anyway due to the NFL CBA. He made the best out of a bad situation and tried to make it a positive recruiting tool.

So skip on the best players because they might leave after 3 years?
Good call, probably shouldn't have recruited Fournette

We would do so much better without players that can make it in the NFL

What a convoluted thought process. I swear some of you guys must be 16 years old or brain dead. If you don't understand how losing NFL quality talent off your roster has a negative effect on your team's depth and quality then it's beyond me to try to get you to understand. Any moron can sit here and spout anti-Miles or anti-staff bullshite but all that is just trying to blame someone for a situation that has developed beyond LSU's control. These kids made the decision to leave early on their own and LSU is feeling the brunt of it. The only way out is to recruit and that takes time whether you bitch or not.

DT position is the toughest in today's world. And this is LSU's biggest problem. Guys leave early. But rarely are DT's ready to play in the SEC as tr fr. How do you fix it? You simply must sign a few every year? You cannot have gaps between the ages of these guys at this specific position. Sign then Regardless of talent? Then be mocked for signing lesser talented guys just to fill the position? Miles will never win with some of you. Admit you hate him, and move on. There are only 11 steps after that one.

This coaching staff since 2009( chavis and bricks first year) haven't brought in any first round draft picks. They either can't evaluate or they can't recruit day one talent.
In 2009 we got Mingo, Montgomery, Brockers, Logan, Davenport, Downs. Since then the talent hasn't come close to this class.

I'm not about to argue with the apparent attrition problem, but what Miles uses as a recruiting tool is irrelevant.
1. Every big school is going to mention their successful pro athletes.
2. Miles saying that we send players to the NFL in no way influences the players that the NFL decides to take.

This statement is generic. No one believes that this coaching staff recruits 100% of it's players to leave after 3 years.

I disagree to an extent. Effort and game plan fall back on the coaching staff, but execution on the field falls back on the players. If our DTs are not as good as the OL they are going up against, then there is nothing the coaches can do on Saturday night. You can scheme all you want, but if the talent isn't there, then you are SOL. Same with the some of the younger talent on the team. The coaches aren't teaching the QBs to throw the ball 2 feet short of the the WR or 2 yards over his head. Reality is, there is a combination of things going on right now. A lot of it has to do with inexperience. The new OLine blocking scheme, true freshmen all over the field, lack of quality depth, etc. are all issues. When you have this much youth on your team, you need quality juniors and seniors to lead and unfortunately the vast majority of ours are all playing on Sundays.

quote:You are being shot at by the pumpers and apologists for speaking the truth. Maybe this is happening in other programs too. But at LSU it is happening twice as much. Last 2 yrs LSU lost 21 early. Next closest was Bama at 10. Normal graduation always hits everyone but you move on. Early departures, like untimely injuries, leave unnecessary holes that may not have ready replacements. Those who fail to acknowledge this reality are refusing to admit the truth. Setting up a recruiting culture based on a wink and a promise for early NFL fame is destructive to the program and there is no way around it. Recruiting great athletes to stay for their entire eligible time is not impossible for a good recruiter. It may be challenging to undo the current 3&out trend but it is necessary. But then the problem may just correct itself as a wounded LSU spirals down into football irrelevance and the big recruits start going elsewhere, in droves.
that recruiting tactic is hurting the program

Where Les has failed, excuse me, one of the many areas Les has failed is keeping players that are late round draft prospects. Some of these kids leave with no draft grade. It's pathetic. And don't give me that shite about they're poor and need to support their family. I guess we're the only football program with poor college kids. Keeping players can be just as important as getting recruits.

I'm certainly not a pumper but this is absolutely one LSU biggest problems.
I've said it for two years now it was catch up with us.
Hard to argue with super fans who think it awesome we've lost a def and offensive unit worth of players in two years.

Anyone that uses the word "pumpers" is certainly one to not take seriously. What a stupid term.
