Since I have a boat now... Need some electronics, gps/fish finder help..

The boat I inherited has a fish finder on it. It's a hummingbird 343c (I think the model is correct). I'm sure it's a older model... Looking to maybe upgrade? Get a unit that has gps/sonar together?
Lots of boating experience... But I'm out on this stuff, this is my first boat. The boat will be used mostly in the reggio/Delacroix areas with an occasional use when we go to big lake to my buddy's camp if the wind isn't too bad. 17.5 aquasport.
I'm putting a trolling motor (riptide/ipilot) here soon and would like to add this as well before the end of the year. Any suggestions?

if it were me, on that boat, I'd keep the current DF and get a 3" or 4" Garmin GPS unit only. all you need to know is the depth 99% of the time.
Now I know nothing about an iPilot and if it requires interface, but on a 17 ft aquasport, I'd keep my expenses down and get a 24V trolling motor, hand control. i like my Motorguide with the shark on it.

*now
Wait until next spring to get a new finder/gps unit and catch this years models on sale. If you are going to fish by yourself consider getting a helm mounted dual finder/plotgraphing gps and a trolling motor mounted HD depthfinder.

For the most part 100% correct. If your DF has decent graphics, finding good bottom structure or drop-offs are good too.

He had a garmin 60 hand held unit that he used on the boat. Think I'd rather have an all in one. Don't know much about that particular garmin.
The hummingbird fish/depth finder I had no clue about as well. I'm sure it's several years old. I'm sure it works fine, but I'd rather have something up to date.
With the helm and trolling motor stuff.... Not sure how much is be fishing on my own. 95% of the time id be with someone at the camp.

Depending on which unit you upgrade to, your existing wiring harness (if the same brand) maybe useable.

I'm was wondering about that as well

But don't let that be the determining factor. If the existing wiring/harness is old, then replacing it maybe the smart thing to do EVEN IF it does work with the new unit you get.

Also a good point...
Any particular brand? Figured I'd be will to spend b/w $350-$450ish?
Lowrance? Hummingbird?

I have a Hummingbird 596c HD Dual Beam (mid-range quality (for non-pro fisherman), price & a couple of years old) and am happy with it. Good graphics. You should be able to get a good one for the price you want to pay.

Don't mean to be a dick, but can you please revise title to "now"
It messes up my mood every time I see it.

I would go with the the HDI 7 in lowrance or a hummingbird 859. You will have to watch for the specials but you might be able to squeak one of those in under your max price.

It's a 17.5ft osprey and no not putting it for sale... My FlL would turn in his grave and my wife would choke the shite out of me.

So I should keep what I have now and wait for end of the year specials... The Lowrance units look nice... But, the one you are suggesting are the next step up to what I was looking at. Is that over kill?
