Some of these players are going to get paid or Seattle will lose them (minus the franchise tag). I know nothing about Seattles salary cap situation but I have to believe that the sallary cap will eventually bring Seattle to down a notch or two, right?

Wilson will be the cap killer. He'll get $18 million and set the dominos up to fall.

Come on?

You're saying Flynn or equivalent QB could have led this team as effective as Wilson just because of Carroll's system? I seriously doubt it.

Definitely Wilson getting paid. He is such a value getting paid so little at the highest paid position in the NFL.

Wilson is nothing more than a game manager. Nothing but a product of that defense. He'll make a nice throw here and there and get in a couple of runs, but he ain't no elite QB. That defense is the nucleus.

Yep. What really sets the Seahawks apart though is how they develop their players. It truly is similar to a college program in that regard. Most teams try to draft guys and then tell them how they fit into their system and expect them to do it. The Seahawks draft guys and develop them in a specific role to fit their system.

The salary cap will never affect Seattle as long as they keep developing players at the rate they have been. There's a handful of guys on the bench right now that will be the new superstars in a year or two. For the LSU fans on here, Tharold Simon will be the next big-time CB in Seattle. He'll get his chance next year when Maxwell gets a big contract elsewhere.

The secret to the talent assembled on the Seahawks defense is that they have a unique, specific athletic profile for each position. They truly believe that they can grab almost anybody that fits this profile, develop them, and then plug them into the lineup for them to be successful. A perfect example of that is Marcus Burley. The guy was undfrafted, cut from 4 teams, and was just about to be cut from the Colts early this year when the Seahawks traded a 6th rounder from him. I thought they were crazy at the time but trusted them. He's turned out better than Walter Thurmond or Jeremy Lane covering the slot. I believe that they have the LB and DB positions nailed down perfectly, but are still hit or miss along the DL with this system.

Here's an article with a brief description on how the Seahawks draft a player profile to fit their system LINK. The article is based on a series that a buddy of mine does for the Field Gulls blog based on SPARQ LINK. He has a database that he built and all sorts of analytics to develop player profiles that fit what the Seahawks are looking for in the draft and it's incredible how accurate he is at predicting the late-round picks that they make.

Wow...good info.

I wonder if this system can translate to the college level?
