Is leaving early just an urban myth to explain our weaknesses?

Which players that left early keep us from getting blown out?

You cant count Jrs that left 2 years ago, because their eligibility is up anyway. You also cant count 1st round draft picks, because no one was expecting them to return.

So I'm curious as to who is it that would have been a difference maker this year?

No one at qb?

No one at lb?

No one at cb or s?

Jarvis Landry? Who would get the ball to him?

Jeremy Hill? Where would his holes be?

Ego Ferguson or either Odell/Landry

Odell was 1st round. Landry would be no different than the WRs we have, we cannot get them the ball

And you honestly believe that 1 man, Ego, would make that much of a difference?

Turner is only on one side of the ball

And with the pounding that Miles does on offense, he might not have lasted the year

Ego Ferguson - left after RS JR season

Anthony Johnson - left after JR season to become an UNDRAFTED free agent.

This is a completely different defense with these 2 guys at DT and LaCouture as the #3.

Edited to reflect that Ferguson was a RS JR as another poster pointed out.

So Odell should have passed up 1st round money to play with this offense?

I don't think it's completely different. But, I do think they would have helped. Also, our secondary is a bit overhyped and I no longer look at it as a strength.

We have given up 450+ yards in two SEC games. Two players dont make that big of a difference.

Miles blamed it on the offense not being able to stay on the field, so even he doesnt think 2 defensive players turns this season around

Never said that, but this is about leaving early, and you can't count people who left early.

No. Our attrition is real. But it is being used as an excuse to explain our weaknesses. We're supposed to have blueprints for recruiting and player development that account for the fact that a lot of key players are going to choose to go pro as soon as they are eligible and the prospects of making a squad are reasonable. Financially and professionally, it's often rational thing for them to do.

You expect to take a step back after the kinds of losses we had on the offesnive side this year, but there is no excuse for that offense looking like they've never played a down of football together or practiced all spring and fall.

As for the defense, Jesus. Where do we begin. They aren't that fricking young. They just suck.

568 and 570 actually. Otherwise, I agree.

Fine, who would have gotten the ball to him? Not having a qb ready has been Miles MO.

After Flynn left, no one ready

All during the 4 years of JJ, no one

After Lee/JJ left we had to go the Juco route

After Mett, looks like no one yet again

NFL WRs are worthless without a qb

We've had 21 early departures since 2011...Alabama is second with 10....You really think that doesn't affect us??

I think the answer to that is obvious. It shouldn't turn us into a fricking DII squad, though.

Wrong, he was a RS Jr. You can't expect high draft picks to stay 5 years.

Like I said, most of those were out of eligibility at this point

Did we not recruit and coach their replacements since 2011?

JJ was the qb in 2011, yet what have we done with that position to get us ready for 2014?

Mett was on the team a full year before JJ/Lee graduated. Also Zach Lee decided to play baseball.
