So the cops bust a meth head with a stolen car, finding drugs in said car. Meth head says the drugs belonged to the owner of the car. Police raid owners house based on word of meth head.

Is this real life? There's got to be more to the story.

What an awful pair of officers.

"looks like somebody that has warrants" - the frick does that mean? Might as well said, "You're black and under arrest."

Armed with an invalid search warrant and with less than an hour of preparation, at approximately 10:55 p.m. several members of the Drug Task Force and the Laurens County Sheriff’s Response Team arrived at David and Teresa Hooks home unannounced by emergency lights or sirens.  There is no question the Officers were aware the home had been burglarized only two nights earlier.

David and Teresa were under the impression that the burglars were back and that a home invasion was eminent.  David armed himself to protect his wife and his home.  Despite the fact that the illegal search warrant did not have a “no knock” clause the Drug Task Force and SRT members broke down the back door of the family’s home and entered firing in excess of 16 shots.  These shots were from multiple firearms and from both 40 caliber handguns and assault rifles.  Several shots were fired through a blind wall at David with the shooters not knowing who or what was on the other side of the wall.  The trajectory of the shots, coupled with the number of shots infers a clear intent on behalf of the shooters to kill David Hooks.

Damn. Just damn. Those police officers should be put to death. It's what you do with rabid animals

This is why, even as a white male, I have a dashcam installed in my car. Being a cop is not an easy job and I respect them, but there is corruption all around.

In a situation like that someone needs to be charged with murder. There's no other way to view it. Cops do not have a license to just go around killing people.

It is too bad that the Magistrate that signed the warrant won't come under much fire. That person should lose their ability to rule in any court, but they won't.

We used to have logical checks and balances, now the deck is stacked on the side of Justice, with no real evidence ever required to issue a search warrant.

At some point people need to start looking at the real enablers here.

I didn't watch that entire video because the filming was so bad it was driving me crazy but in the part I did watch the camera man sounded like a
moron. The pc is the reason for the traffic stop. If she was speeding or broke any other traffic law thenpc was there. I am not familiar with the laws of that state but here in Louisiana an officer may order you out of your vehicle at any time during a traffic stop and you must comply. I didnt see the rest so I cannot comment.

Dan -- had you watched the video, you would know she was stopped because the car was registered to someone with an expired license, which is ridiculous in and of itself.

When asked, the cop said something about headlights being off as the sun beats behind him. Then the cop said the passenger looks like the type of guy with warrants. Then it was that the driver was acting nervous when the police threatened to involve CPS if they did not fully cooperate.

Per usual, the next time you say something that isn't retarded will be the first.

I thought I was pretty clear when I said I didn't watch the entire video. I come to this site for entertainment and not to watch videos that make me ill because they are filmed so badly. Who in the fook are you anyway? You just joined this site yet speak to me as if you have been here reading my posts for years. Go join an Iowa board and consort with your own kind where you may be wanted.

A few questions,

Can someone tell me how this would have been different if they were walking down a street? Officer thinks he sees someone with a warrant, approaches the couple and ask who they are. Do they have to tell the officer who they are?

How was this whole interaction supposed to go? If the officer assumed he had a person with warrants sitting in the car, and the guy in the car refuses to say who he is (I'm still not sure if there was any legal reason he needed to say who he was). Who wins this tiebreaker?

Was there any point in the video that an "investigation" legally began? I'm assuming that Gov issued ID is required if an investigation is in progress.

Is being in your car a "public" place? Is this different in different states?

The deck is stacked for laziness. And you are right, in order for the system to work people (officer's of the state and of the court) have to execute their sworn duty.

Depends on the state. A "hunch" is not enough. Add in other attributable reasons that become a totality of the circumstances then you can be stupid and identified. Multiple cases on reasonable suspicion stops, both involving vehicles and persons.

ETA:

See if your state has stop and identify statutes. Here is AL's for example:
Section 15-5-30

Authority of peace officer to stop and question.

A sheriff or other officer acting as sheriff, his deputy or any constable, acting within their respective counties, any marshal, deputy marshal or policeman of any incorporated city or town within the limits of the county or any highway patrolman or state trooper may stop any person abroad in a public place whom he reasonably suspects is committing, has committed or is about to commit a felony or other public offense and may demand of him his name, address and an explanation of his actions.

(Acts 1966, Ex. Sess., No. 157, p. 183, §1.)
