So far he's just been rehashing jokes from his new in town stand up.

This is like watching bizarro shitty knock off of Seinfeld. And I think there's a laugh track. Plus his sitcom timing isn't good at all.

ETA:

Yeah this episode is just a rehash of New in Town.

I'm trying to give this a shot bc John is funny as hell, but the show looked like a disaster before it started.

Maybe Martin Short can save it. He's one of my all time favorite comedians

They're just throwing in bits from his standup that don't work in normal conversation.

Drew Carey's show was the same thing.

It does seem like less funny Sienfeld.

She's good. It's gotten a little better. I'm not cringing, I just don't see this type of show making it.

Just finished watching first episode and not really that good. I'll give it a couple more but it seems super lame so far.

I watched it. It sucked. Total Seinfeld ripoff and not trying to be subtle about it. And yeah, reusing old jokes that were on a network stand up special is dumb. I was finishing the jokes in my head.

This could've been written by him to pitch to the network, with the idea to use tried and true jokes that he knew were popular, and hopefully fresh material from additional staff writers from here on out, if it makes it. I agree this pilot was garbage, though.

If I remember correctly, the pilot of Louie used a lot of jokes from his older specials -- but not an awkwardly delivered cluster of jokes from a single special like this.

What I saw was just a rehash of his standup. And it was a live audience not a laugh track.

Just read a couple reviews that said pretty much the same stuff said in this thread. One said it gets a little better next episode, but only because the pilot was so bad.

I really wanted to watch this show. I made it maybe 10 minutes. It was like nails on a chalkboard. Mulaney looked like he was hardly even trying. It was very reminiscent of the Drew Carey pilot, which someone correctly referenced. Just a rehash of the star's standup without any iota of acting ability.

If you search the term "Mulaney" on twitter, the first suggestion is "Mulaney awful"

Don't see this one lasting long.
