Come to LSU, they say. Be a part of the best incoming class in America, they say. We lead the nation in early departures for the NFL. Play your 3 and go to the league. Look at all those Tigers on NFL rosters!

What they don't say is that by following this template the last few years, LSU has forfeited its ability to have senior and upperclassman leadership. Even Les has admitted that he's no longer high on redshirting anybody for this very reason.

Blast me if you wish. We have been assembling the wrong kind of team. Period.

Let's recruit players that aren't as good. Problem solved.

I don't know if thats the way to look at it

but i do agree recruiting kids to stay is just as important as recruiting them to come here

I agree. We need to encourage players to stay longer, but it's becoming a national mentality now.

So LSU is the only school with people leaving early? NO! What happen to Miles being such a great coach and bringing top recruiting classes every year?

You cant have it both ways. He does have top recruiting classes, but he doesn't develop talent and he doesn't play to the strength of said recruits.

You are right, but the great majority of people will say you are wrong. What they fail to realize is that as a fan I worry about LSU. I do not give a damn about the NFL. What players need to realize is that the great majority of NFL players have short careers and end up broke. The AD's need to step up and end this early entry crap, and if the NFL doesn't take action then force it to have minor league football leagues where kids can go right out of high school.

Most important thing is to recruit guys that are going to stay. I'd rather have guys that might not be 5 star guys but maybe 3 star guys that you can coach up and that will stay. I don't think that Mississippi State or Ole Miss are getting the caliber of recruits that we are getting but they get guys that they can coach and guys that will stay. It will be interesting to see if it keeps working for them, I think it will. I'm getting to the point where I'd rather have the guys who would give their left nut to play for LSU, guys that really want to be here than the ones who only come so they can get to the League in 3 years. But realistically, that's only part of the problem. Mark May said it best when he made the statement that it looks like they play with no emotion and really don't care. David Pollock also brought out the fact that they are not very physical on either side of the ball. I definitely agree with that. Least physical LSU team I can remember in a long time.

I think the problem we need to solve is getting the players that aren't ready to stay

It makes sense for someone like Jarvis Landry to leave early

The guys that leave early and get drafted in the 7th round or go undrafted are good enough to help the team the following year even if they aren't blue chip NFL material

This is where simple logic evaded your grasp.

I'd suggest that it's the reality of 2014. And Les realizes that NOW, which is why he publically pled with his upperclassmen to stay about three weeks ago. The solution is not to recruit less elite players and develop them less impressively, for the love of God...

The what's the Goddamn answer? Continue to recruit the guys who are only in it for themselves and could give a crap about LSU? The job of the coaching staff is not to get guys ready for the NFL. It's to coach them to play and win games for LSU. If they develop and are good enough to get drafted and play in the NFL then so be it but I'm tired of the interviews on National Signing day and talking about staying 3 years and then going to the League. Makes me sick.

the problem with this is, if your team sucks, you can't be a stand out player that goes in early rounds.(or a least much harder to do) You have less of a chance to show your talent if your team is getting smacked around

It certainly would be nice to have Ego, Freak, Turner, and Hill around. Especially since those last two skipped out on not one but two years of eligibility. It's a big issue that Les is going to have to figure out. I don't see us competing for championships while we have such a talent drain.

We also lost a DE with remaining eligibility to "graduated - transferred".... name excapes me now, but he's playing for Arizona this season, I believe.

doubtful we keep ALL the players for 4 years, but I'd RATHER we keep more of them for 4 years and have fewer early departures... no doubt it impacts the team negatively.

I guess we'll have to adopt a baseball recruiting mentality. Sign those middle tier players.

You answered your own gripe...players leaving early for the NFL, because careers are short...one more year in CFB is one less in the NFL in these guys minds...this isn't division II football, this is the SEC, the biggest, the meanest, and the fastest players in CFB...And they are already broke...so why stay any extra years when they can get $500K for jumping early...they can broke then, but at least a shot at the Show gives them some wheels, etc...

I cant blame LSU for recruiting them, and it would be stupid to not recruit these guys, they're going to play somewhere, either with you or against you...

No blast. Total agreement with OP. What I have been saying here for a long time and have gotten blasted for. Fun for me to see the reality of our self-inflicted decline start to dawn on people here. The chickens are home and roosting.
