I know I already said this but I highly recommend listening to the new Jack Album "Lazaretto" on vinyl. Sounds amazing and it has some neat tricks to it. Very thick vinyl, hidden tracks, it plays from the inside to the outside (the only one of my albums that does this), has a never ending groove on the end of side 1 and I think there is even a track hidden in the labeling. Also there is a hologram hidden in the vinyl that shows up when you play it.

I'm fairly new to the high end game as my kids both just graduated college and I now have a few extra $$ to play with. This is my first real higher end system-a starter system for some of audiophiles out there.

Audio Research VSi60 Integrated Amp

Rega RP6 Turntable with Exact 2 cartridge.

ProAc Response D2 Speakers

Rega Apollo-R CD player
Quantum QB4 power distributor
Rega Fono phono stage.

Vinyl-A-G
T-Z
with a few more boxes of those letters to unbox.
H-some of T are still in boxes.

Found this at a garage sale years ago.

I like posters too-picked up the one on the right at the concert in SF in 2000.

I collected these when I was a kid and can't imagine how they made it through the 20+ moves in my life.

PSA, I know a lot of people on here bash Dave Matthews Band, but I like them, and for those who are interested, the band is reissuing Under the Table and Dreaming in vinyl as part of the 20th anniversary of that album. Here is the info:

That's pretty awesome. I'm tempted to get it.

Jack's tube amp has me drooling.

It's one of the best records I own and it was the best selling in the record shop by my house for a good while.

Bought a copy of Jason Isbell's album "Southeastern" and it came in Pink vinyl (Breast cancer awareness thing), making it my first vinyl record not to be the color black. Great album too. The only thing I don't like about this pressing is it is very light vinyl so it is flimsy and it is hard to see if the record is clean or not so i have to clean it every time I play it. Go for a thick pressing if you are getting this album, but it is a damn good one regardless.

$1,000 is more than I paid for it. I got it through AAFES for around $800. It is the most xpensive component in my system. Mine could use a little maintenance. Some of the rubber and plastic parts weren't really designed to last 30 years without losing elasticity or deforming. I just don't use the thing much anymore to be honest, but I'm reluctant to get rid of it for sentimental reasons.

First non-black vinyl? I've got all kinds of colors in my collection.

One of my favorite's is Dax Riggs' - We Dream of Only Blood or Love. Clear red vinyl...looks like blood.

Do I have to buy the deluxe Lazaretto to get all those cool features?

There are still a few guys around the country that will fully restore Nak Dragon decks and replace all rubber gaskets/tires/rollers and bring them back up to spec.

If you want the info, let me know and I will get it to you.

Shark, read up on mono vs. stereo vinyl. Since you seem to be into this now, you may find the groove technologies interesting.

To really do mono vinyl correct, you must have a mono cartridge. A true mono LP only has "undulations" or "information" on the horizontal, or "Y" axis of the record groove wall (the sides of the groove). A stereo LP has undulations and information on the sides and also "mountainous" peaks and valleys at the bottom of the groove as well--thus giving a "second" channel of audio.

There are some neat photos taken with a microscope of the grooves of both mono and stereo LPs and you can easily see what is going on--search google.

A mono cartridge, playing a true mono LP, through a Pre-amp that has a mono switch (plays one mono signal through both L&R), can sound fantastic.

That is why you will sometimes see very high end turntables that have 2 tonearms (or even 3)...one tonearm has a mono cartridge and the other has a stereo cartridge. This is more popular amongst the hard core jazz guys that seek out original Blue Note recordings that were all done in mono when they were originally released in the '50's. there was also a good bit of classical done in mono as well in the '50's and early '60's.

Good info.

Not being a huge audiophile I've always wondered what the difference in mono and stereo was. I have several LPs I got when my grandfather died that say they are mono, mostly big band Benny Goodman stuff. Never could tell a difference in sound, but I'm on a pretty basic setup with a low grade cart. Though my receiver does have a Mono setting. Only thing I notice when I flip it over to Mono is the bass is more enhanced.

Unfortunately he was extremely racist and had no rad jazz albums.

I think every LP of Lazaretto comes with those features.

I'm jealous. I believe my copy is just the black vinyl.

To OP: how do you like the U-Turn? Considering buying one to not break the bank due to building my new home right now. I hear it takes forever to ship.

Thanks for asking, I highly recommend it. It's simple, has a minimalist design, and easily upgradable. Best value for the money in budget focused turntable IMO. Made right here in the USA. I have lived it so far. I first heard about it from a poster on this site who recommended it. The reviews on it have all been outstanding as well.

Edit: and yes the only downside was it took a little while to ship, about 3 weeks. Well worth the wait though.

Went to half priced books earlier and picked up some records:

Elvis Costello - Imperial Bedroom (probably my favorite I picked up)
John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band (great find - record is in great shape)
Jimmy Buffett Live
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Marty Robbins - Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs (record is in horrible shape unfortunately - will barely play but it was only 3 bucks)
Steely Dan - Aja
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Elvis Costello - My Aim is True
ELO - Out of the Blue
Pink Floyd - Ummagumma
Will the Circle be Unbroken - various artists
Merry Christmas from Andy Williams.

I'm not sure if you're into having other people pick out your vinyl for you but I recently joined "Vinyl Me, Please"; it's $27 a month (shipping included) and they send a record each month with an original piece of art alongside a drink recipe to listen to the record with.

Last month's was Madvillainy by Madvillian and this month is "Too Bad Jim" by R.L. Burnside. They also send an e-mail before compiling the new month's album with some other vinyl you can purchase to be sent with your regular record.

That's pretty legit, I am down for that. Thanks for showing.

Damn it's telling me it could be 1 to 2 weeks before I can sign up. Does it always do that to make it look like they are in high demand or exclusive or something?
