One can only hope so, for the sake of the North Korean people.

Please, enlighten me. What would a delegation to South Korea have to do with a power struggle in North Korea?

It's absolutely mind boggling that in 2014 the world would allow a people to be oppressed that way. Reading some of the stories from people that have escaped that hellhole God I hope so.

I hope so for everyone's sake. Anything other than a quiet coup, would have drastic effects on the stability of the entire region.

I think everyone on this forum understands North Korean is like a ticking time bomb that nobody wants to deal with.

I'd like to add thought that for selfish reasons I hope they let Kim Jong Fat arse hang around in some capacity.

The boys in the Fark room have had a ball with his little pudgy arse.

If they had as much oil to offer as the Mideast, I'm sure America would be involved. What they do is no different than the Dictators in the Mideast, no oil, no care...

The North Korean leadership has to know that time is not on their side. As every year passes the differences in nutrition between the North and South will impact the numbers and physical characteristics of their respective populations. South Koreans will be more numerous, and they will be bigger, stronger and faster than North Koreans because of better nutrition.

There are also the wide disparities in each country's economies as well. The South is an economic powerhouse compared to the North. It's productive capacity already dwarfs that of the North, and the gap between them is expanding rapidly. This translates into the ability to field and maintain a modern military.

The North Korean leaders can not be ignorant of the fact that they will be facing a South Korea who will have a better equipped military manned by bigger, faster, stronger and better fed personnel. And that is to say nothing about likely allies. South Korea is more likely to receive military support from other countries than North Korea.

At some point the leaders of North Korea will have to align their policies with the stark realities of economic and demographic trends that they can not alter unless they intend to commit national suicide. I believe there are enough rational people among the leadership of North Korea who would take steps to prevent such a national suicide. This may be them taking action.

If you look at the news that has been coming out of NK recently, it's all just really weird.

the Capital city is basically on lock down, there are reports of KJU's health being bad, then it's just 2 broken ankles, now leaders are going to SK.

Just smells funny. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a coup taking place and we could see efforts at Korean Unification....which is a whole giant issue in and of itself

I doubt it. The problem with their system of government is that there are more brothers and sisters waiting in the wings to take over if fatboy dies. And when you have been corrupt this long, you fear the people if you give them an inkling of freedom.

Yeah. I think that Kim has two broken knees, not ankles. The main question is who is really in charge. Military leaders who take over in coups don't have a great track record.

President Rodman?

I had read a rumor a few days ago that there was a coup and one of the top generals had sent or was sending delegates to the South to begin negotiations for a reunified Korea

Yep. The dirty little secret is that South Korea may not necessarily be thrilled with the prospect of reunification.

But yeah, I believe that the Pillsbury Dictator Boy will soon set sail for Valhalla. Once you pass control to somebody else in that environment (even your sister), you ain't getting it back.

South Korea doesn't want to bear the burden alone of rebuilding Korea.

And SKoreans treat defected NKoreans like absolute dirt.

The Kims may just be puppets. Maybe the shadowy puppet master group just wants him replaced with somebody more docile.

I will hope for reunification though. Freedom would be a plus for 95% of everyone over there.
