The NBA previously considered speeding up the game by no longer making foul shots worth one point apiece.

D-League president Dan Reed and Daryl Morey were in support of the idea, which was discussed around last season's All-Star break.

A player fouled in the act of shooting or in a penalty situation would shoot a single free throw that would be worth two points. If a player is fouled shooting a three-pointer, he would attempt a free throw worth three points.

By doing so, those 47 attempts per game would be whittled down to about 26.

The concept might have been tested in the D-League, but Reed left his post to accept a job at Facebook.

The games are barely over 2 hours as it is. How fast do they need to be played?

Would be a completely different game and would probably get rid of my pels season tix and never watch again.

And would kill the suspense at the end of games. I know this hasn't gone through or anything, but it seems like pro leagues actively try to break their sports.

Weirdly enough, I think this is both a cool and horrible idea all at the same time.

I like having to earn single points at the line, but at the same time it would be cool to see people shooting FTs under much more pressure knowing that it would be worth two or possibly three points.

Also, for some reason I think it would be a horrible idea at the end of games. And it's bad enough the way people try to draw so many fouls today, this would make it much, much worse.

ETA: ultimately, I'd want it to stay the same.

that actually isn't that bad of an idea. Morey is probably supporting it because Harden goes to the line 50 times a game and that makes for boring TV or the fact that Howard goes to the line 20 times a game and misses half of them. Either way...

Yeah, I can't make up my mind

I like they idea of someone having to come through in the clutch though and hit a ft to first tie, then win.

I always thought it was weird that a free throw is only worth one point.

If you get fouled on a 2-point shot, the punishment to the other team is that you get an uncontested, free shot for two points. Logically, that's how it should be.

Having said that, I like the two free throws because I'm so used to it.

I don't think Morey is as much concerned with the length if the game as he is the break in action that happens during multiple foul shots. He was saying one foul shot would make for a better flow to the game because it is a quicker stoppage.

If you are fouled shooting a 3 pt shot you should get an uncontested 3 pt shot worth 3 points, not a free throw worth 3 pts.

Every 30 seconds they can reduce is one more advertising block they can sell.

Terrible idea. I would much rather see them move to 1 and 1 rules for all free throws. If you miss the first one you're done.

It's an absolutely retarded idea. You think the flopping is bad now?

One change I'd like see made to free throws is awarding assists on made attempts. I think it's ridiculous that a pass that normally would lead to an assist is basically forgotten if a foul occurs even if the fouled player makes his free throws. Without the original pass, the points gained from made free throws never occur. If a shooter goes 2/2 or 3/3 on his free throws, give the passer an assist.

Why won't these retards realize that if they want to speed up the game, quit having mandatory television timeouts, problem solved. In every level of baseball, we used the first inning or two to warm up before facing batters and after that it was immediately on to the game. Meanwhile in the pros, they warm up EVERY SINGLE INNING during a commercial break. The relief pitchers spend all their time warming up in the bullpen, they don't need to warm up when they get to the mound. cut those commercials out and baseball dramatically drops in time.

NBA could drop their timeouts from 6 a half to like 4 and that would reduce the game time.
