Car Dealership Accountability
Posted by adavis on 10/1/14 at 4:50 pm00
So- I bought a truck from a dealership on Monday with an "as is" warranty. I've driven it fewer than 100 miles and the service engine light came on this morning. I'm taking it to the mechanic in the morning to see what's going on. My question- if it's something serious does the dealership have any responsibility in repairing it? TIA

They do not. They could be nice and help you out though.

have you at least contacted the dealership. they would be more willing to help if you discussed it with them before showing up with a bill from your mechanic.

The check engine light could be something as innocuous as a gas cap not tight. What did your prepurchase inspection show?
Don't tell them you took it to a mechanic and bring to them for help. If they lie about the problem or on the other hand take care of it. Then you know who you're dealing with.

Yeah, I wouldn't show up with a bill. I just want to get it diagnosed before I call them and start raising hell. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

"As is" is not a warranty. It's not even latin.
