Russia is starting to speak about Baltic countries as it did about Ukraine

A senior Russian Foreign Ministry official says that Moscow has a responsibility to protect ethnic Russian citizens of other countries, "regardless of where they live," and that "we will do everything possible to defend the rights and interests" of ethnic Russian minorities in the neighboring Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

"We are carrying out a line so that Russian compatriots regardless of where they live are guaranteed all rights and freedoms ... and have the opportunity to preserve the culture and traditions of their historical Motherland," Makarov said, explicitly extending this to the million-plus ethnic Russians who are citizens of Baltic countries.

Of course the Baltics are all in NATO. The question is does Putin care about that?

Of course he won't. But 'little green men' might while Putin says the whole time they aren't Russian military.

He might not attack a NATO nation, but he will try political unrest and under the table tactics but nothing like what he did with Ukraine.

He will do it exactly like he did in Ukraine. He still denies the Russian military is in eastern Ukraine fighting the Ukrainians.

Only after the independence referendum in Crimea did he acknowledge that Russia was sending its military to "protect" the Crimean people. Up to that point, he claimed it was Russian civilian 'volunteers', aka, "little green men" who went to Crimea and fought the Ukrainian military.

He believes 'It worked once, why wouldn't it work again?'

I think we should defer to the European NATO members on European matters. If they don't care, we shouldn't care. That's the same way I feel about ISIS and the Arab/Muslim world.

YOU NOT CARE, WE NOT CARE.

He won't have to attack a NATO nation.

All he has to do is wait for some Estonian, Latvian, or Lithuanian "extremists" to attack ethnic Russians in those countries.

Then he sends in troops to protect those ethnic Russians. Of course, he'll have to take control of military, media, and government assets to ensure the success of this defensive operation. Can't allow the possibility that the "extremists" might control them.

The Russification of former Soviet Bloc countries during and after WWII was done specifically so that the above scenario would be a political option down the road.

I would love to see him try something with Finland. They are the only Baltic state that continues a full military conscription.

Serious question - if what Ruskie posted is true and the ruble is really about to collapse, would that make Putin more incentivized to NGAF and go ahead and invade?

Then once he has control of these nations he would be in the catbird seat to negotiate a financial aid deal/settlement. Seems like a cornered bear is the most dangerous.

Why would the West bail out Russia AFTER he invades the Baltics? That doesn't make any sense at all. He would confiscate the hard currency assets of the countries he invaded.

How's that "Reset" button working out for us now, Obama-bots?

All this and the person who actually handed the Reset button to them is going to be the next POTUS.

When will we learn?
