I just searched Google and only found that Delta suspended flights because of "weak passenger demand".

Why the frick are US airlines flying to/from this place? WTF?

They've already brought over one infected person. Are they trying to spread this shite?

Because Ebola isn't a big deal.

No, really. Its only a big deal in third world countries where medical care is non-existent. The same outbreak in the USA wouldn't be nearly as bad due to our medical system and Ebola when treated isn't as deadly as people think.

Now a rabies outbreak?
I'm getting to the bomb shelter.

I'm sorry, but I'm not buying that. Until they develop an effective vaccine, no one should be freely traveling to and from that area without strict oversight.

It won't be as bad because everyone who knows the first guy is scared shitless right now and will run to the doctor at the first symptom.

There is some hope if they catch it early. Otherwise, Western medicine isn't that much more able to save your life than African....they can just make you more comfortable.

This first guy is likely to die from what I have read about his situation.

Is this minority report?

In the USA anyone who displays haemorrhagic symptoms is going to be immediately put in isolation and will be treated with caution to prevent disease spread.

In these african countries we have multi-generational dwellings, communal houses, and large families in close proximity without good sanitation and no ability for isolation procedures. In the USA this issue is eliminated and prompt treatment has saved several westerners lives with the disease.

Its not nearly as scary as people are saying it is. More media selling fear at this point.

I've seen you say this twice today. Do you have a link?

My tennis partner had to leave early today to make an appointment for her husband. He lands today from the Middle East but his his point of origin was west Africa 8 days ago. He called from a layover and told her he wasn't feeling well with a lot of congestion and dizziness. Doesn't believe he has a fever

I'm generally not all that concerned about this Ebola thing but I'm really not sure I want to play tennis with her tomorrow. It's hot, we sweat, lots of high fives and hugs when we win. And we always win.

thank you.

It is no coincidence that 2 Americans were on their death beds in Africa, but when they got to ATL and a 1st world medical system they recovered.

Its an amagulation of things I have read + my own opinion.

It is based on how severely symptomatic he is.

He sought medical aid on his own days ago and was sent home with antibiotics (which would do nothing for Ebola).

The second trip to the hospital was by ambulance, and he was upgraded to critical today.

And the coup de grâce is that there are no experimental doses of medicine left.

And even if there were, he has past the window of those that survived it after treatment and entered those that didn't.

He is just working against a heavily stacked deck at this point.

Well you're more than welcome to contract Ebola if that's your choice, but stay the frick away from me. I'd prefer to not get it if you don't mind.

You won't, but in the situation you did you have a darn good chance at making it through, especially with prompt treatment.

They started receiving Western treatment before leaving Africa. And they started receiving treatment when they first became symptomatic.

Two isn't a large sample size, and Western medicine isn't batting .100 worldwide against it when you consider similar cases as ours in Europe.

Like I have said before:

I am a little curious though what all the people who downplay the severity of Ebola with statements like "What are you going to do if you get infected? Get treatment" are going to do when this first guy dies.

It is a virus that is transmitted through contact with infected fluids. Don't have unprotected sex with a liberian hooker or handle in bodily fluids you have nothing to worry about.

If you are that worried about it:

Honest question, did he fly here DIRECTLY from Africa or did he have a layover? When I fly to Equatorial Guinea I always fly either Air France or Lufthansa so it's never a direct flight to this part of the world. The only airlines that I am aware of that do are United (to Lagos Nigeria from Houston) and Eithopian Airlines (DC to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia)

are you my mom? She says the same thing and I just laugh in her face (the only time I have ever done that). It is funny watching some ppl freak out when they have no idea how the virus works.

Probably tell people, especially young men, to seek medical treatment more often and sooner. It wouldn't be the first time a guy had an issue and didn't get it seen in time and died as a result. Otto sol Peterson was a comedian who had some neck pain/other issues and never got it seen about. Walked out of a medical office to make a flight and his meningitis killed him not that long after.

This guy didn't pursue treatment with enough persistence and is now outside of the treatment windows.
