It seems to me like putting a player on the bench following a fumble is the wrong approach - personally I would give that guy the very next carry to keep his confidence up.

Thoughts?

It's every coach in history's approach.

And yes, I agree with the approach as it is not only to discipline the player, but gives him some time to realize he needs to prove himself when he gets back in.

You don't do this with the most elite, but it has its time and place.

We've protected the ball unbelievably well under Les, so I'll go with his approach

Saban did the same thing and made them carry a football for a week.

Running backs work on ball handling way more than any other position. This is something they should be way more than proficient at. They do strength specific workouts to avoid fumbling. It would be the same as if a WR keeps dropping passes. Would you leave him in as well?

This. One thing you can't bash CLM for is the way his backs carry the ball.

Les is doing it the right way

Apparently, it is who is doing the fumbling...AJ, fumbled on 1st possession, came right back out...AJ threw two INT's and came right back out...so, I guess it depends on who does the fumbling as to how CLM reacts to it...I know LF7 fumbled and rode the bench for awhile, but came back in same game...If KH27 fumbles, he usually doesn't see the ball again for a game or two...Fair? I have no idea the whole story behind any of it, but it's a coaching decision and I will leave it at that...

I wouldn't have an issue with it if he wasn't so hypocritical about it.

Jennings turned the ball over 3 times yet kept getting put back in, and Hilliard fumbles once and was done until late 4th quarter.

In 2010, JJ fumbles 3 times and an INT in the Vandy game and didn't miss one snap, yet Lee would get pulled in a heartbeat.

I think pulling a player that turns it over is fine, but he should be consistent.

LSU under Les has done a great job protecting the football.

With Les' style of leadership with the players, I agree with the way he does it.

They know he cares about them and the way he handles it is not personal.

With a different coach with a different style, I might agree with you.

I don't think QB's are held to the same standard, nor should they be.

How am I butthurt? I said I agree with the premise, but don't agree with his inconsistent application of the strategy.

Are INTs or fumbles by QBs any less detrimental to the team?

INTs happen sometimes as do fumbles, so I understand not having a knee jerk reaction with a QB after one, but when the QB turns the ball over 3 times in 4 drives and still doesn't hit the bench, while a running back fumbling once equals immediate benching, something is not right.

Could have sworn that he just lost his job.

Anyways, comparing a QB to RB is stupid

Understood, and they shouldn't be, but in the extreme cases I presented, I believe he proved that this rule of turning the ball over and seeing the bench only applies to certain players.

It may be his way, but it is still inconsistent even between QBs.
