The NFL is still able to negotiate blackouts with TV execs, they just don't have government support for them.

I still can't figure out why they have to cut away from one of the early bonus coverage games on the network that does not have the afternoon game.

Normally those games are close or are in overtime and due to NFL rules we cannot show you the end of this game.

Fricking Goodell!

So you will watch the game on other network, the one who paid the NFL to show the doubleheader that week.

Unless I'm not understanding this correctly, you should probably change the name of your title.

As far as I can tell, there will definitely continue to be sports blackouts, just not local blackouts.

I'm still not going to be able to watch a fox regional network MLB game from out of my area.

The FCC dumped the sports blackout rule Tuesday, dealing a blow to the NFL at a time of growing scrutiny for the league in Washington.

In a unanimous 5-0 vote, the commission eliminated the decades-old regulation, which prevents cable and satellite TV from airing games that are blacked out locally when the team fails to sell enough tickets to fill its stadium. The NFL has defended the rule as a tool to ensure robust attendance, but a growing number of regulators and lawmakers say it unfairly punishes football fans.

3 million fans can't watch because 2,000 tickets weren't sold.

Makes TOTAL sense.

It's bad enough that many of their biggest fans can't afford those tickets anyway.

Will it end the asinine rule that you can't watch an ESPN Astros game in Baton Rouge?

That made no sense when I was growing up. The only way you could watch the Astros or Rangers around here was on Saturday on NBC or CBS.

I hate the fact that New Orleans is somehow in blackout range of both the Astros and Rangers. That makes no fricking sense.

and people wonder why there are so many Yankees, Sox, Cubs, and Braves fans around here. Because they were on TV damn near every day without being blacked out.

Because of the far away CSN Houston dispute, an Astros fan in New Orleans could not buy the MLB package just to watch them play. The rule to "help" the sport cost it money.

When I was a teen a NO station (WNOL?) picked up the Rangers briefly. I watched every night. Back when they had Incaviglia.

I couldn't watch them again until Fox Sports picked them up.

25 years later

I can't remember which teams it is (one being Braves I believe) but north of Claiborne got one MLB team and south got another. We realized this in 2010/11. Was weird.

Was Fox Sports

lol wut. A quote from the first professional league to start its own cable network. And sells NFL Sunday ticket via a satellite provider.
