Brady's stats have been in steady decline for 5 years now. How much of this is on his supporting cast?

QB Rating:
2010: 111.0
2011: 105.6
2012: 98.7
2013: 87.3
2014: 79.1 (59.9 last night)

Completion %:
2010: 65.9
2011: 65.6
2012: 63.0
2013: 60.5
2014: 59.1

Tom Brady has completed only 43% of throws more than 5 yards this season, 2nd-worst in the league behind #Bills EJ Manuel (40%)

I'll retire when I suck

EDIT: PFF just wrote a pretty good article on Tom Brady's suckage yesterday. PFF

His Oline is bad
quote:

Through four games the New England offensive line has allowed 55 total pressures (sacks, hits and hurries). That is two more than any other unit in the league, 25 more than the league average

BUT

quote:

On plays where Brady has felt no pressure this season he has a passer rating of just 83.0 and a PFF grade of -4.7.

clean pocket before his first pick.

clean pocket on his second pick. Looks like a bad route, bad decision, and awful throw. Partial blame on receiver here.

but his receivers are getting separation. Brady is just making poor reads, and late/bad throws:
quote:

The other thing you’ll hear people say about Brady is that the receivers just aren’t getting open. This is an argument brought to you by people not watching the tape

A good bit has to do with a poor supporting cast. Too much of the talent around him is washed up or injury prone.

It's just a shame as he seemed to be a really good QB with scrubs running around out there in the early-mid 2000s. Then he became super Elite when they got Moss and Welker. Then he started declining.

I thought according to some his ability to succeed without a great supporting cast is why he's the GOAT. Is that not the case anymore? Not directed at you specifically, it's just funny how it went from being a point in his favor to now being an excuse made for him

It's almost making me want to root for the guy since he seems to be an awesome dude.

What about the fact that NE's offensive philosophy took a change from what it originally was. It seems like now they are trying to blind the old style/with the new. Which isn't actually going well at this point.

Scott Loefler couldn't carry Tom Brady his whole life.

I'd put at least 70% on this.

The supporting cast is bad but the biggest change I've noticed with Brady is how he moves in the pocket. Obviously he was never a great athlete but he used to navigate the pocket so well and made the Pats oline look better than it was. He looks frenetic with the pocket collapsing now, that never used to be the case.

They're 88-24 with two Super Bowl appearances and two AFC Championship Game appearances since then. Yes, clearly they owe their success to cheating.

i agree with this but I think it is probably because he doesnt have the same level of comfort with this new line. He doesnt trust that he can step up or step left and not get destroyed.

but also, he's just getting old and washed up.

Losing his 2 favorite guys on offense the last 2 years has not helped (Welker and Mankins). As well as injuries all over the place.

The biggest factor is the depleted/poor/crappy offensive line, and lack of talent in the backfield (Vereen and Ridley are garbage).

Brady isnt any worse (maybe a tiny bit, with age), but the group around him on offense seem to get worse each year.

His supporting cast is absolute shite. He looks bad because his receivers get zero separation, and his o-line is constantly breaking down.

The O line is playing like garbage. They can't run block, but they make up for it by not pass blocking.

I started a thread in preseason right after they traded away his OG, but how long until Tom Brady demands a trade? Dude has hardly ever been given quality pieces around him. The older he gets, if he wants to continue playing, the better his weapons need to be b
