I unfortunately inherited a boat b/c my FIL passed away. Its a 17.5 Aqua Sport bay boat with a 90 etec, but he didn't have a trolling motor on it.
I think i know what I'm leaning towards with an 80lb MK Riptide.
But, I have no idea on where the best place to buy it and or have it installed.
I have a good bit of boat experience, but have never actually owned one.... thus the lack of knowledge with this.

No. Bought through bass pro (free shipping to store), installed at Cajun Outboards.

I bought a MK TR75 Digital from Marine Deal. Saved about $75 compared to everywhere else for the same model. It's the network enabled version and it links up with my Lowrance finder/GPS.

Plus free shipping.

Have been very happy with this motor and will look at Marine Deal again for future purchases.

whatever you decide, make sure it's remote control.
Had my Motorguide SW75 for 7 years.
Flawless and so damn nice being able to control the boat from anywhere on the boat.
Minn Kota makes a great remote control one as well.

A little apprehensive with the remote stuff. This will be basically something to run the marsh with in Reggio/Delacroix will the remote circuitry and what not hold up?
That's why I'm leaning towards the hand control

Dude, they're much better than tiller controls. No moving circuitry, all the electronics are in the box bolted to the boat, not the head.
They are tough! I had a 18' Kenner 1800 with the SW75 Motorguide on it and fished al over south Louisiana with it.Delacroix,Buras,Lake Pontchartrain,Fourchon,Cocodrie,Big Lake.

Tiller control you have to twist the handle and that part inside the head goes bad on all of em.

Clip this to your belt buckle and its always right by your fishing hand for quick access. It's on a retractable lanyard as well.

Pic i took running down the ICW @ Lake Borgne

You make a good point.... Will definitely look into it. I was told to stay away from motor guides. Apparently you had good luck with yours? Any issues at all?

I wouldn't let Front to Back pump gas in my boat. Had a very bad experience there.

none. Just don't listen to any fanboys and make your own decision.

Okay... So I've done some research and they say to pick your proper thrust you must use 2lbs of thrust per 100lbs. The boat is 1740, so according to that I need a min of about 35lbs. I was looking into an 80, but shite I may have a wake if I use that.
Id assume loaded I'd be able to be fine with a 54? Or should I get an 80?

My FIL just got a 18ft aluminum with a 75 MK and that bitch flies on 5.

Dont short yourself on the trolling motor. Its nice to breeze through grass and pads without getting stopped every 10 feet.
