20%? Wow. I would love to see the average time people stayed unemployment. I'm sure of those 20%, at least a few were able to find another job relatively quickly.

Almost half -- 46% -- of the estimated 30 million layoff victims who found new jobs said they paid less then their old ones, according to the survey of 1,153 U.S adults done over the summer.

Asked to compare their salary and savings now to five years ago, 42% said they had less. That figure included 25% of respondents who said they had "a lot less."

I got mine 3 years ago. Struck out on my own and haven't looked back.

Times are tough. Not saying that to make a joke. It is tough time to make a living in the US right now for a lot of people.

I was laid off in 2013, but luckily found another job (lower pay, but more hours so it evened out roughly) 2 weeks later.

I was laid off in July 2009 & it took me 8 months before I started another job. I looked everyday online for jobs and went on interviews but it took awhile and I had to move to take this job but was glad to move.

It always tickles me to hear people fearing a layoff.....I was laid off 9 times in 1990 and I never even thought about it "ruining" me....in fact I have probably been laid off at least 50 times in the last 32 years and it always works out...hell I have even laid myself off twice.....of course I have also quit about as many jobs when something better came along and have been fired once....

Being laid off isn't really a bad thing if you work in the construction industry (usually it means you helped finish the job and you'll soon be hired on for another one), but it has the potential to be devastating in most other industries.

well likely some of those people were laid off multiple times. I know a guy that was laid off 4 times in 2 years. Sucks to be him, one time he didn't even make it a week.
