1. New Mexico State is an absolutely dreadful football team. They have zero talent and are likely worse than most high-level FCS teams. It was stunning to me how a DI program can have such terrible players.

2. Harris is a very gifted passer. He has the arm strength and the touch to truly be elite if he continues to progress. His mechanics are inconsistent and it's clear he still has a lot to learn, but his natural talent and intuition as a QB is fun to watch. I mention this not to spark a debate in this thread re who starts going forward, but simply to say that he can be special given his innate abilities.

TL/DR...summary: NMSU was beyond terrible; Harris has elite natural talent.

Alright, coach.

What about Jennings' mechanics?

I think Harris has the ability to be a first round pick in a couple of years

I wasn't talking about Jennings, and I clearly stated my comment re Harris was not meant to draw a comparison.

I was simply commenting on his elite natural talent, and how that talent is exciting regardless of any other progress he needs to make. My opinion on his inconsistent mechanics shouldn't have made you so upset.

Also, to answer someone else's question, I watched it on ESPN3. Replays are all available there.

Part of it involves his inability to consistently set his feet. That is obvious and necessary when scrambling, but he seems to rely sometimes on pure arm strength (which is incredible in and of itself) instead of torquing his body correctly to maximize velocity on the ball. This gave him no issues this game because of the opponent, but he actually has more to gain if he sets his feet and delivers the ball consistently in the pocket.

He does this most of the time, but there were a few plays where he seemed to let it lapse. I understand it, as he never needed to do it consistently to have results both in HS and against NMSU, but eventually this habit can affect accuracy and velocity.

No, I am not a coach. But I played the position, coached minimally in the past, and I know enough about the game to assess proper QB mechanics. To be clear, I'm sure plenty on this board know better than I do, and I am clearly not in the same stratosphere of knowledge as the actual coaching staff.

Just posting what I observed.

Good post OP.

My main takeaway was also the NMSU was just awful, from their I'll fitting uniforms to complete lack of explosion.

Please pump the brakes, bro. I don't want to jinx the kid or saddle him with the overblown expectations we place on every promising Tiger.

I agree with this, for the most part. Their best WR (Morgan) was actually in the top 10 in the nation coming in with 400+ receiving yards (just a few less than Dural) and he had 5 catches vs. LSU. But all in all, they compared pretty closely to the Idaho team that came here a couple years ago.

What NMSU REALLY needs to work on is their strength and conditioning. They looked like they were totally spent about halfway through the 2nd quarter.
