I'd have to go with quarterback and hockey goalkeeper as the top two, what next though? Fly half in rugby? Pitcher in baseball obviously is important, but one individual pitcher doesn't have as big of an impact as an every game guy in other sports.

NFL QB. Not having a great one is basically impossible to overcome.

Easier to make up for a bad QB at other levels though.

You think the guard is less important than the center?

To be fair, Flacco had sick numbers in the playoffs.

True.

But would you consider him a "great" QB?

Exactly.

Not impossible to overcome. Hell, Russell Wilson isn't a great QB, at least not yet.

People like to say hockey goalie but I don't think its the case. Goaltenders rarely have that game breaking ability and when they do, it isn't consistent. Personally I think having a bonafide number one center for a team is more crucial.

In a one-game scenario, a baseball ace is the most important, even more than QB and goalie in hockey. Clayton Kershaw is more valuable in a Game 7 than Henrik Lundqvist in a Game 7 or Peyton Manning in a playoff game. But in a series, that changes. Both Lundqvist in an entire best-of-seven and Manning in a playoff game are more valuable than Kershaw in an entire best-of-seven.
