If I have 20-30 pines, is there anyone out there that would cut them for free/discount to keep the lumber?

What's the best tool for cutting brush and 2-3 diameter trash trees?

If I cut some trees and make some burn piles, do I have to split the trunks? Seems like a good size pine would be tough to burn without splitting.

Thanks as always OB

Call Danny Warner with LCI and let him clear it, haul off all trees, stumps, etc and haul-in your fill dirt.

Email me at 4lsu2td@gmail.com if you need help with this. He does all of our work.

Yes, there are small independent's who do smaller quantities of pine removal for being able too keep profits from sell of small quanties of timber to a mill. Research your area by calling a few independeants

Two potential 'best' ways to clear brush and trash trees
1. Hire a forestry mulcher to turn brush and small trees into wood chips
2. Hire a bull dozer to push brush and trees into piles

Not necessary to split trunks, just give plenty of dry time for cut trunks before burning

4LSU2, would they clear to keep the wood as payment?

Bow08tie, when you say local independents, do you mean normal tree removal companies or do I search for something else. I can't seem to google the right thing to find what I'm looking for.

How big of a area? When you planning on building? Stumps will need to be removed and then back fill dirt will need a long time to settle back in.

Another option, I saw this guys card, Glenn Dixon, Albany LA 225-209-5451 when eating lunch at Wayne's BBQ last week.. He has a portable sawmill and will come to the property to cut logs into lumber...

Buyer beware when working with someone who you are paying in wood. it is their #1 goal to get the wood and get out. Naturally, they would not be as concerned with clearing your land as you would like to see it done. Hire a dozer for ~$1000/ day, probably only looking at a day or two.

Majority of these independents aren't going to be found on google.
What i did was seach classifieds in paper, area for sale papers, etc for leads. I called a few numbers and eventually lead to the independent I used to remove my pines. If you make contact with an independent that tells you they are not willing to mess with these few trees, be sure to ask then for numbers of those who might. The independents who have been doing it for awhile all know each other.
Oh, and which ever one you go with ask for proof of license and insurance.

Our builder is clearing and prepping the land with a dozer. But I have some additional areas Id like to clear of pines before they get started. Id love someone to just come in and take these pines and keep as payment. I just don't know where to start calling.

Hmmm, I like that idea even though I'm trying to save money.

I'd even settle for someone to come get logs and haul them off as payment. Not even cut them. Our land guy could cut them and push them aside. It's the burning or removal cost that I'm trying to avoid.

There are those who will cut the logs and haul to mill as payment.

Also, make it clear up front you want the tree tops piled up for future burning.

Cool thanks bow. I'm heading over to abita lumber later, I'll ask them or see if they have a board with biz cards.

You are thinking smart. The less trees around the house, the better.

Any local mill or even local wood furniture builders will be the ones who know. They deal with all these guys all the time and can give you the best names. Get a few names and numbers and get a few estimates. If there is any money in the timber, you may want to let them have trees if they agreed to clean up the tops too.
