Is this Left Behind movie supposed to be serious?

Or is it supposed to be intentionally terrible like Sharknado?

Sadly this will release to the tune of 7% on Rotten Tomatoes, although I am sure it will be a "thing" on this board because it was filmed here.

Yeah, it's supposed to be serious. Nicolas Cage is the lead I think.

Left behind is the first book in the present day apocolyptic book series of the same name by Tim LaHaye. It was a straight to DVD movie a while back with Kirk Cameron.
Its based on the rapture.
I can't imagine they are doing all 16 books.

They can't do all the books but the story makes no sense if you don't do multiple movies so I'm surprised they remade it with a bigger budget because there's no way they'll get that far.

I hope Cage was smart enough to get a piece of the back end of this movie because it is going to make some serious bank.
Christians are going to flock to this movie.

Read the books. Forget theology, some of the worst writing I've ever read.

Christians feel obligated to watch this kind of shite. I had people that I thought were intelligent tell me that I needed to see the first one and that movie Fireproof. This movie will make tons of money.

I somehow read this entire series about a decade ago or so, possibly longer. I am Catholic, so I read it for the fictional story, especially since the writers basically said Catholics were not getting raptured. I watched about 5 minutes of the first movie with Kirk Cameron before turning it off. I will not be watching this one.

Christian-themed movies are an easy investment to make. It can even be done on a micro-budget. Here's a story that would make bank:
A Christian teenager and his parents move away from their small Bible Belt town to San Francisco. He attends a high school full of progressive, agnostic/atheist students and faculty and his faith is immediately tested. He has conflicts with his dad who sold out his faith in Jesus to move to California for more money.
The main antagonist is an atheist bully who constantly steals his lunch money while mocking his faith (because Jesus would have given away his lunch money). The teachers do not intervene because they are evil atheists as well (the screenplay goes to great lengths to demonize them).
The movie ends with our protagonist giving a heartwarming speech about the love of God so beautiful that the school decides to add Bible Study to the curriculum. It ends with a Christian rock band concert in the gymnasium and a message to tweet #Jesuslovesyou to everyone.

The cover of the DVD for your movie will include quotes from reviews like "will make you want to stand up and cheer" and "a heartwarming film that the entire family will enjoy together."

I remember when the book first dropped and was all the rage. I was looking at the back cover while being checked out at Wal-mart and some strange lady came and declared, "You have GOT to read this book. Best book I've ever read."
Not long after I said what the hell, let me check it out since so many people swear by it.
One of the worst, most childishly written and plotted books I have EVER read. An absolute insult to intelligent readers. You don't have be dumb just because you're Christian.

I read the young adult series and enjoyed it, but never read the adult versions. I do believe this movie will be crap though.
