Stick with your Italian Bs.

Benelli for semis, and Beretta or Browning Citori for O/U.

I like Citori White Lightning, if I were buying a clay gun today, and I would probably get it in 12, with the 26" barrels.

O/Us are probably the classiest, most detailed firearms in the U.S. market today, particularly mass produced, rivaled only by the old English side-by-side makers, for attention to detail, fit and finish, etc.

But, nothing quality is cheap - particularly O/U shotguns.

Probably 1200-1500 max, but I'd like to spend 600-700

Then forget O/U's. Decent sporting clay O/U's are gonna run you ~$2,000 new bare minimum. Ruger Red Label is probably the cheapest, not totally crap, O/U out there and Ruger just upped the MSRP to $1800.

Semi auto's at your $600-700 range for sporting clays are the Franchi and Beretta A300. No frills, but they will break clays.

Getting closer to $1000-1200 puts you in the ballpark for the Browning Maxus, SX3, and Benelli M2, Benelli Vinci. All good guns in sporting outfits. Don't get the "Duck Hunting" edition of these guns.

If you go to the top of your budget, you're now talking Beretta A400 Xcel (if you enjoy shooting with the smurfs), Maxus Golden Clays Edition, SX3 Sporting, etc. These guns were all made with clay smashing in mind. Adjustable pads, interchangeable chokes, different sights, etc.

Have money ready and learn what you want. Look for 28" or longer barrels. Even entry level Beretta and browning are made to last generations with prior care. There are many gun makers that you are not familiar with that make quality guns. Where do you live? You need to handle some guns to see what feels good. You really want to at least get the LOP close...

Godspeed to those taking the present day Huglu journey.

I too have been down that path. I'm still bearing the scars.

Intredasting. I have a little 28ga CZ that is a cracker jack. Might be differences in the line.

Two weeks ago, there was a Beretta 12 gauge o/u in the Cabela's gun room for about $700. I thought hard about buying it.

I was going to suggest Ceaser Guerini or Rizzini. If you want to be closer to $1000, there is nothing wrong with CZ for O/U.

I've made no secret on here of my disdain for Beretta pistols, but that is a nice shotgun.

This is hyperbole. You can find new White Lightnings in the $1700 to $1800 range and Lightnings $1500 to $1700. You can't get limited editions or stuff like that, but multi-generational, heirloom guns for well under $2k.

I have 2 browning o/u and my favorite is the 725 sporting with 30 inch ported barrels. I know people who bought stoger and they broke in first year
