Did the OP ever state what his son is hooked on?

Good luck to you and your family. Insurance can eat a bag of dicks.

Palmetto, eh? Big Frank will help him get in line quick. Palmetto is no joke. It's boot camp light as far as what you're doing. They'll sit in a circle every day and you talk about your issues-any BS and they all call you out on it. Good luck. An addict will give up everything in life to get his fix and until he wants to get sober will do so. That's a good place for him

Ahh, big Frank. I remember him. Had plenty of time with him even tho he was not my primary counselor. Yeah, i spent 112 days at Palmetto, which is a 90 day program. But, I have been clean since my time there in 2007. I guess those extra 22 days were well spent. And I did want to quit when I went there.

That's fricking great man. It's a miracle. I did not go through Palmetto but know a lot of people that did. The older folks mostly got it. I can't imagine trying to sober up in my 20's like so many of these opiate users are trying to do.

I didn't even see what the douchebag below me posted because I was signed off.

I honestly hope that the OP can help his son. Edited because this isn't about me. It's about him helping his son.

I simply think it's all a mental thing.

There are some drugs which are simply not just a mental thing. Your body gets used to them and the brain regards them as simply another neurotransmitter. It is not an easy battle. My greatest hopes go out to any family who has a member suffering from drug addiction. It takes a lot of strength to be the family member who has to engage in the tough love. It also takes a lot of strength and support for the one who is addicted and wants to stop.

you seem angry for absolutely no reason

I had a good friend all through middle school, high school, and college that had very bad drug abuse issues and I can tell you there's only so much you can do. People will only change if they want to change. You put everything you can in for them for a while only to have them frick you over numerous times until you realize your friendship only acts as a crutch and enables them. Sometimes people just have to hit rock bottom to change. Sadly, sometimes rock bottom ends in overdoses.

I'm not going to go on about it here, man.

And I assume the rest of the post was for somebody else...because I unfortunately have more experience in this arena than a buddy from middle school. Not to minimize your very real and very sad experience.
