Jesus, this game is heavy. Everything in the game is just perfect. The things you can upgrade and use just make the game so much better. And then once you can get Shadow Mount? I went from fearing caragors spawning in to reveling.
And the branding ability opens up so many possibilities that are personally manufactured. Do I kill this warchief's bodyguard? Of course not. I brand him and the other two bodyguards he has. Then I get to sit back and watch as his own men hack him into pieces for me.
And the fact that sometimes they can keep coming back if you don't take their head off makes the Nemesis thing even more engaging.

So I'm on the fence. I damn near bought this game today but stopped myself so I could come home and do more research on it. All of the reviews I've seen and gameplay video look great.
But is it really as amazing as people are claiming?

No, we're all exaggerating

Yes.

Did you like the batman games?

I love it, I own it, I'm not trading it in, etc.
but it's just a notch below the arkham games and way better than the assassin's creed games. The platforming elements are flawless.
It is a series that can really grow beyond this as well. Two maps in mordor, big world, but when they give a meatier story and expand the gameplay world beyond mordor, it's going to be tits

Does any open world game really nail the story? They are so hard to keep coherent.

I think arkham asylum is a solid batman story and arkham city is one of the best batman stories ever told. I felt like I was playing in the "long Halloween" universe but at the apex of batman's career not the beginning.
I think the uncharted series nail the stories they set out to tell.
GTA VC, SA and GTAV
I don't think the story sucks, but it isn't as immersive.
Like I said, I love this game and feel it is a must own. (my favorite games are 3rd person single player)
I just think the story is a little too quick and there isn't as much focus on it. I'm not through with it yet. I'm doing the side stuff. I've heard a lot about side missions but there aren't any. It is freeing slaves, completing challenges, finding artifacts, etc...those aren't "missions" so much as "tasks"
This is a first effort and it's impressive, especially the fluidity of the platforming elements and combat. I'm just excited to see if they build on it...bigger world, beyond mordor, populated with more than orcs, and a stronger/bigger story.
I think this could be a great series of games. I really hope they make more

Not open world

Neither is Asylum. And City's story got so convoluted I stopped caring.

I tried it the night I bought it and went out to my 1st map maker and attacked one orc, buy the end of it I think 5 war chiefs leveled up over kicking my arse and I turned it off. This was the night of the UF debacle and I wasn't exactly sober so I will give it another go.

yeah that's true,
let me add red dead redemption. I'm not talking about the simplicity nor am I criticizing the story. I just think there is potential for more in the future. I like games that improve upon the previous efforts. This game is awesome, up there with some of the franchises I just mentioned? a slight notch below, as nic cage might say, that's high praise.
This could be a great series, I'm excited at the prospect of them making another one. I just wish more of the content was related to the story, but there's plenty there. I think it's a great game.

I agree they could probably do more, although I am not far enough into the story to truly say that. My point is just that when I play an open world game, I don't go into it looking for story because even when done well, I usually lose track of what is going on.

yeah but other open world games are populated with more than thugs...except batman (but the environment is packed full of detail and easter eggs...literally everywhere.
for a map where you either encounter orcs or their slaves, I think the story should be more central to your walking around and tearing shite up.
still a great game.
if there's another one I'd love to see
1. more interaction in the open world (people)
2. a new setting (hells yeah, middle earth is full of cool fricking places
3. a story that is given more focus and is more integral to what you do in said open world.
these are little nitpicks, if this game is to become a series, it's a great start.
If this ends up being the only game of it's kind, yeah it was great, but it won't be in the category of any of the games I mentioned

I agree with those things. I'm still on the first map but there isn't much variety in environments. There are all those items you can find with many stories but they don't seem to tie together or make much sense.

What is the highest power ranking you have gotten a member of the army to? I had one that I got up to 20. I killed him, or thought I did, twice with stealth kill. They showed him all messed up but he was still alive. He kept kicking my arse and figured out I wasn't beating him in combat. One hit and I was looking at a last chance. Went for the stealth again and finally took him out. The Ranger even said "finally you've been silenced".

I had a guy get up to level 20 or 21. Bastard was the first guy I ran into and also had the ambush strength so he would pop out of nowhere while I was fighting another captain.

Friend sent me a picture last night that he avenged my death That's a cool feature.

I've gotten better at strategy at this point. Now their army is so weak I can just pop them with an arrow to the head. I like pinning them with an arrow too. I really wish one would say something about taking an arrow to the knee
