Anyone involved at the scene who gets cancer will have it attributed to the debris. Maybe it's true, but I don't know if the sample size is going to be big enough to say it was without a doubt cause by 911. That being said,

They would have to rule out any variables such as whether they smoke etc.

Most likely mesothelioma, because the towers were built in the early 70's, when asbestos was widely used. Asbestos is (was) a great building material, very strong, fire proof, and excellent insulator, they just didn't know it would kill you.

Either that or silicosis I would assume.
