Military to allow undocumented immigrants to serve

For the first time, the program — known as Military Accessions in the National Interest, or MAVNI — will be open to immigrants without a proper visa if they came to the U.S. with their parents before age 16. More specifically, they must be approved under a 2012 Obama administration policy known as Deferred Action for Child Arrivals, or DACA.

I really think that's. a bad ideal. I'm wondering did I move to mexico? This country needs to be loyal at least to our military. Its ridiculous. to have them in our country let alone in our military . Undocumented people in this country need to be deported not promoted . We need to take care of our own people.Our government breaks the immigration laws.Nobody who profits off it wants to do anything about the problem. Now they are letting. them in the military! I thought no one was above the law.

The MAVNI program is small and there are more then enough documented foreigners who apply considering the benefits. I have never heard of anyone who was in the program who was not there to enlist as a linguist, and it is almost entirely mid-east and central asian linguists. Now we are are going to accept middle easterners and afghans whose parents are illegally in the US, maybe this is a trap for them.

I think it's a good way to let them earn citizenship. I doubt a douche bag gang banger will serve honorably. I'm OK with this.

I agree with Smack. Linguist or Medical skills, they speak English, and they serve on foreign soil under combat-like conditions.

This isn't anything new. Pretty sure we've been letting people earn citizenship by serving during war time for decades. I have zero issue with people that want to earn a place here. Hell, I would if I were them. Now if only we could trade some of our undesirables for them in return!!

I agree with this. As a side note, my great grandfather came to the U.S. from Italy in WWI as an orphan and worked for the military bc he spoke 9 languages.

Mine immigrated here. All 4 of his sons, who were also born in Italy, served and one died at Normandy. They had no problems serving proudly for their new country and fighting the fascist that had taken over theirs. They are still quite proud of their Italian heritage. We fly both flags at our family reunions, but they're 100% Americans.
