the pipeline is set to connect the historic De Halve Maan brewery to a bottling factory two miles away, eliminating the 500 trucks that drive down the city's small streets each year.

The pipeline is designed to carry more than 1,500 gallons of beer each hour

2 mile pipeline carrying beer? Seems it's got 2 miles to oxidize and pick up many particulates.

So how many people are going to try and dig to tap into the pipeline?

I just don't see how that can work.
(Beer nerdery about to show)
You have beer traveling 2 miles via a piping system. How do they clean the pipes? Won't that waste more water? How do they keep the beer from oxidizing? How do they keep the beer clean (again see pipes)? How big and how many pumps will they use to carry beer 2 miles?
Great concept, but not practical.
ETA: Just read through the article, apparently it is possible. Still curious how they are addressing those issues though.

stainless pipes?

If the pipe was a sealed system, there would be no spare oxygen to interact with the beer.

I agree. All of their best scientists and engineers will be put on this to make it happen.

Germans.............Did it better
quote:
While most of us associate pipelines with oil and gas, Germany is doing it right and turning them into beer pipelines. In Gelsenkirchen, Germany, bars in the Veltines-Arena are interconnected by a 5 kilometer beer pipeline. Underneath the enormous stadium are four cooling centers that store 52,000 liters while the pipeline transports up to 14 liters of beer per minute to thirsty patrons.
The pipeline connects to over one hundred bars and restaurants located inside the stadium, with fluctuations in the flow of booze determined by how well their team, FC Shalke 04, is performing.
